Summer WWF Worldwide Wonders Mixed Case
This is exactly what modern, gorgeous Rioja is all about. A full, plump and generously fruity red from a new young team who own vineyards in the southern part of this great Spanish region.
This château is a magnificent edifice, now sadly in disrepair, high up in the northern hills near Juliénas. The cool spot makes an intense, deeply coloured, refreshing style of Beaujolais that can outshine many a cru.
With deep ruby red colour and a rich, plummy bouquet, this is an opulent merlot-based wine from the excellent 2018 vintage. The wine reveals dense dark fruit notes and a hint of dark chocolate on the finish. Rich and satisfying claret from a historic property in the Castillon, close to Saint-Emilion.
Pure, harmonious New Zealand chardonnay from master of the grape Michael Brajkovich MW. With tempting peach and apple aromas which develop on the generous palate, this is fresh, bright and delicious.
A dry, fragrant and full-flavoured white from the hills of the Luberon. This is slightly herby, round with a hint of peach. Try with a grilled goat's cheese salad.
Clare Valley can produce wonderful full-bodied, generous and balanced reds, of which this is a prime example. A deceptively grown up wine, Australian this cabernet sauvignon-merlot blend is aged for 18 months in French oak and is powerful and silky, with brooding blackberry, plum and hedgerow fruit and lovely freshness to finish.
Intense, finessed and vibrant riesling from Clare Valley in Australia. With lime zest, freshly squeezed lemon and stone-fruit flavours, this is a wonderfully precise and ageworthy white wine.
Rocco Pasetti was one of the very first to champion the excellent local white grape pecorino, and his many years of experience growing it help him make it extremely well. It has gained a considerable and deserved following at The Society, and the 2020 is delicious: lemon rind and crushed rocks on the nose, with bright crisp acidity on the palate, orchard-fruit flavours and a dry refreshing finish. A Decanter World Wine Awards bronze medal winner 2021.
An unusual and versatile blend of Portugal's crisp and refreshing arinto grape with the yellow fruit and creamier texture of chardonnay.
Fragrant with the scents of dark fruits, spice, and flowers, with some creamy oak, this classic Swartland red has a full palate and food-friendly tannin cut on the finish.
Vibrant, red-berry and cracked black-pepper perfume, a light body yet concentrated summer-berry flavours and a refreshing finish - classic youthful, delicious Valpolicella. This Italian could be lightly chilled too, and would be perfect with a spicy pizza or cold cuts.
An innovative take on Spain’s now famous white grape albariño. The innovation is in the winemaking whereby the wine has been left ageing on its lees (“lias”) for over three years. This retains freshness and vitality in the wine whilst adding a bready complexity to the flavour and a softness of texture which is the result of bottle age.
