A Taste of North-West Italy Mixed Case
Wines included
Franciacorta Brut, Ferghettina NV
Gentle, delicious, traditionally made Italian sparkling wine from the rolling hills of Franciacorta, in Lombardy between the southern shore of Lake Iseo and Brescia. The blend is 85% chardonnay and 15% pinot noir, allowed to go through second fermentation in bottle, and then aged on its lees for more than two years. Highly recommended.
Gavi di Gavi, La Smilla 2022
This generous Gavi has lovely almond and citrus flavours that are crisp and complex showing the quality that the cortese grape of Gavi can reach when grown and made carefully. Perfect with a wide range of foods, but particularly perfect with ravioli or agnolotti pastas, both of which originate from this Italian region.
The Society's Exhibition Langhe Nebbiolo 2021
‘Nebbiolo is rarely this good under £15,` said one taster as this was voted a Wine Champion. ‘Lovely, crunchy cherry fruit – serious wine!` said another. No stranger to Championship victory, this wine is made from young vines in otherwise Barbaresco-certified vineyards, and this quality jumps out in the glass. Perfumed with roses and violets, this is a sultry, spicy Italian classic.
Dogliani Luigi, Einaudi 2023
Dogliani is the home of the dolcetto grape. Einaudi `s is one of the best. Its strawberry and red-cherry fruit, medium-bodied freshness and hint of graphite make it perfect pizza wine.
Roero Arneis, Cantina del Nebbiolo 2023
This tight oyster-shell and lemon-rind scented white has great poise and elegance. Very refreshing and a style of Italian white that will pair well with creamy pasta, risotto's and seafood.
Barbera Piedmont Le Tane, VinchioVaglio 2023
A great fresh blackberry and redcurrant-scented barbera from north-west Italy, with intense fruit and spice on the soft balanced palate, a perfect bottle for lasagne, pizza or pasta.
