A Taste of Southern Italy Mixed Case
Wines included
Fiano Colle di Tilio, Janare 2023
Fiano has a lovely full apricot and peach style, with no oak, but plenty of refreshing, almost bitter citrus-pith notes that make it very refreshing yet not sharp. Perfect with creamy pasta dishes or roasted vegetable salads.
Vescovado Guardavalle Calabria Bianco, Santa Venere 2023
The guardavalle white grape, native to Calabria in the toe of Italy, has produced a wonderfully individual, salted-apple and quince-perfumed medium-weighted wine with a mineral lick and a twist of spice on the finish.
Ciro Calabria Greco, Santa Venere 2023
Made from organically cultivated grapes on a beautiful hillside vineyard overlooking the sea in the toe of Italy, this is a delightful peach, lemon and oyster-shell-scented white wine with a clean, dry finish. Seafood pasta would be perfect.
Salice Salentino Riserva, Vallone 2021
Made along the heel of Italy in sea-cooled but sunny Puglia, this old-vine negromaro is generous and soft, with blackcurrant and plum flavours. There's a little mocha and a sweeter finish point , with well judged ageing in large old oak barrels really enhancing the overall quality.
Primitivo di Manduria Riserva, San Moro 2021
This rich, full-bodied, blackberry and bramble-scented primitivo benefits from ageing in large wooden botti and in bottle, which has softened the structure and allowed a little spice to develop.
Aglianico del Vulture 'Alvolo', Alovini 2020
Aglianico is arguably southern Italy's finest red grape, and this wine really exemplifies that. Full-bodied with damson and Black Forest flavours, mineral-like acidity, and a touch of balancing oak spice with leather characters on the finish.
