Wines included
The Society's Exhibition Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2021
Two thirds of this California chardonnay comes from the warmer Rodney's vineyard, and a third from the fog-laden Los Alamos. Picked at night, this wine is fermented in Hungarian and French oak barrels, 20-30% of which are new, creating a wine with great balance of oak and ripe orchard fruit.
The Society's Exhibition Santorini Assyrtiko 2021
‘This was easy to choose as one of my seasonal picks. A Greek island is a dreamy summer thought wherever you are and whatever the weather, and Santorini wines are a wonderful means of transport to sunnier climes! Our Exhibition Santorini has the classic citrus, sea-breeze freshness and weight of assyrtiko at a snip of the cost. Partner with some fresh fish or salty anchovies with a slug of olive oil and be transported.` Matthew Horsley, Buyer for Greece
The Wine Society's Generation Series Argentine Malbec 2022
We had to have an Argentine malbec for our limited-edition, 150th anniversary celebrating Generation Series range, as it so obviously represents a wine style that has risen to prominence in the last 50 years. It comes from the Altamira region whose cool climate and limestone soil produce a wine with floral and black fruit aromas and a ripe palate given length and freshness by the limestone soils. The 2022 vintage was of excellent quality. Maturation in 20% new French oak barrels and 80% second and third use for about eight months moderates oak influence, rounding out the tannins and contributing a hint of vanilla without swamping the fruit flavour. The Wine Society's Generation Series Vinsobres 2021
Altitude and mountain breezes make Vinsobres the ideal place to source a Côtes-du-Rhône, and this example, made for us by our old friends the Jaume family for our 150th anniversary, has bright open fruity notes of cherry and raspberry, ripe tasting but without any heaviness. The Wine Society's Generation Series Marlborough Sauvignon 2023
Marlborough Sauvignon started on its meteoric rise in the late 1980s and has since become one of the most loved wine styles in the world. We have worked with Ben Glover, star winemaker of the region, to produce a special wine to represent this icon within our special 150th Anniversary range. It comes from premium vineyards in the region and demonstrates all the delicious appeal that has led to the incredible popularity of New Zealand`s most successful wine export. It`s impeccably crisp, generous and citrusy; a classy, complete and delicious wine with all the appeal fans of good New Zealand sauvignon rightly expect. The Society's 150th Anniversary Moulin-à-Vent 2019
The elements of the blend that make up this delicious Beaujolais come from four well-known and well-respected growers in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Just under 10% of the wine was aged in small three and four year old oak barrels, not to impart obvious oak flavour but instead to add to the texture and structure of the palate. This is a deliciously mellow, mature cru Beaujolais, with mid-ruby colour and a nose of brambles and dried herbs. Perfect with charcuterie, roast chicken or goose, or a mushroom ragout. Refined and classy cru Beaujolais. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Wine Society's Generation Series Rioja 2020
A limited release for our 150th is this fruity, plummy and smooth Rioja which is mostly garnacha, the grape most commonly used in Rioja in the 19th century. This has been aged for several years before bottling in 2023, including 10 months in French oak. For a video message from the winemaker, and for more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Society's Exhibition Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Margaret River is home to some of the world's finest cabernet sauvignon so it's been a pleasure to work with Vasse Felix, the founding winery of the region, to produce this example exclusively for members. The nose is wonderfully inviting, silky and black-fruit driven, while the palate is full-bodied, pristine and elegant. Vasse Felix don't make own-label wines for their customers as a rule. However, they have made an exception just for us and as a result we are honoured to give members the opportunity to taste top-quality cabernet from such a special producer at unrivalled value.

Classic zinfandel from California, with cherry and sarsaparilla on the nose, wild strawberry and redcurrant coming through on the full yet soft palate and a hint of vanilla on the finish.
