Kékfrankos, Péter Wetzer 2018

Fresh, aromatic and pure kékfrankos from artisanal producer, Peter Wetzer, based in Sopron, Hungary. His village kékfrankos is arguably the finest wine in his stable, showing intense aromas of cloves, citrus peel and Asian spices, and a medium body characterised by fine, chalky tannins and a wonderful freshness.

Hungary £14.95 per bottle

Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese, Pio Cesare 2019

Grignolino is thought to be unique to Piedmont in Italy and this is the DOC that is based on the origin of the grape in the Monferrato hills. Made by the late Pio Boffa it has great charm and character. This is pale in colour, but with an expressive perfume of white pepper, sage, stock, cranberry and red cherries.

Italy £17.50 per bottle

Pittnauer Pittnauski, Burgenland 2015

A delicious Austrian blend of merlot, zweigelt, blaufränkisch and St Laurent which is mellow, brooding and showing complex signs of maturity. The nose offers a nice combination of plummy fruit and savoury forest-floor notes while the palate is full of black and red-fruit and spices.

Austria £17.00 per bottle

Whistler Wines 'Shiver Down My Spine' Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019

At first glance, Aussie shiraz might not appear an exceptionally curious choice, but this delicious example turns many of the genre’s halmarks on its head. Exuding lift, crunch and freshness, this elegant red is all about drinkability, juicy flavours and subtle winemaking.

Australia £19.50 per bottle

Wildeberg 'Wonder Horse' Palomino, Piekenierskloof 2020

The quirkiness displayed here in no way undermines the seriousness of this heritage-vine palomino from high-altitude vineyards in South Africa’s beautiful Piekenierskloof. Planted in 1977, these venerable vines deliver an extraordinary freshness and salinity with precision, and long, appetising finish.

South Africa £14.50 per bottle

Val de Loire 'Cirrus' Macération de Sauvignon Gris, Eric Chevalier 2018

Muscadet producer Eric Chevalier's first orange wine, a microvinification in a unique spherical stainless-steel tank and three seasoned oak barrels. Fié gris (the local name for sauvignon gris) fermented on skins and stems delivers a wine with citrus pith, mandarin and orange liqueur aromas and palate-cleansing grip. Recommended with cheese or chocolate(!), this is a tempting treat to experiment with over the next year or so.

France £20.00 per bottle
