The isle of Islay just off Scotland’s western coast is known for producing some of Scotland’s most pungent malt whiskies. This is in part because the barley used is malted over burning peat, and that imparts a real smoky quality that is unique to this area. The Exhibition Single Malt Islay, which is an eight year old, has that classic, textbook flavour. On the nose, it’s full of seaweed and iodine. And on the palate, we have kippers, as well as that, of course, malted, wheaty flavour that comes from all single malt whiskies. It’s a really particular and interesting dram to enjoy.
