The Ultimate Christmas Day Case
Wines included
Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux, Moulis-en-Médoc 2017
A perfumed, ready-to-go Moulis from one of our favourite châteaux on the Bordeaux left bank. Savoury, cool cabernet fruit dominates, with perfectly rounded tannins on the finish. The blend is 84% cabernet sauvignon 15% merlot and 1% petit verdot.
Gigondas, Tradition Moulin de la Gardette 2017
Round and soft tasting with smooth, ripe tannins in a fabulous vintage. this is a lovely Gigondas that can be enjoyed young. Creamy textures and rich, figgy and spicy flavours.
The Society's 150th Anniversary Vintage Port 2011
One of the first wines to be secured for our special 150th Anniversary range by former long-term Port buyer Mark Buckenham, this Port, from the outstanding 2011 vintage, has been blended especially for Wine Society members by Symington Family Estates. Made from fruit specially selected from some of their riverside quintas in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, the heart of the blend is the deeply coloured, fragrant and robustly structured touriga nacional grape variety. A sweetly flavoured, opulent wine, with pure, concentrated dark fruit, hints of tea leaf and dried herbs, and a rich, long finish. Delicious now, it will continue to develop further complexity in bottle. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
Pouilly-Fumé 'Les Racines', Domaine Cailbourdin 2022
Formerly labelled Cuvée Boisfleury, the wine is named Les Racines (The Roots) to continue the reference to terroir that runs across the range. Yields are low, grapes picked fully ripe, delivering volume underpinned by a streak of minerality and hint of gunflint.
Famille Cordier, Mâcon-Fuissé 2022
This high cool site produces a bright and refreshing white Burgundy. The lovely palate mingles apples with a hint of melon. Fermented and matured in 500-litre barrels to moderate the oak flavour.
The Society's 150th Anniversary Vintage Champagne 2012
Nicolas Jaeger declared the 2012 as an 'exceptional vintage'. The Champagne, disgorged in 2020, now has a rich brioche and preserved-lemon note on the nose, fine persistent bead, an elegant yet intense apple, plum and bread-yeast core with mouthwatering acidity lengthening the concentrated, long and balanced finish. We're delighted that this wine is part of our celebratory Anniversary Range in our 150th year. For a video message from the winemaker, and for more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
