Generation Series 3 Mixed Case
Wines included
The Wine Society's Generation Series Limarí Chardonnay 2022
Wine Society members quickly embraced Chilean wines, which have become confirmed favourites. We are delighted to have worked with our long-term supplier Concha y Toro and their renowned winemaker Marcelo Papa, who made this wine especially for us fto mark our 150th anniversary. It is a top-quality, barrel-fermented and matured Limarí chardonnay with an elegant, understated character. The region`s cool climate and limestone soils produce a fine and fresh flavoured chardonnay, predominantly appley in style with a hint of melon. The palate is taut, linear and of excellent length. Ideally serve at 11-12°C and decant for twenty minutes before drinking it. For a video message from the winemaker, and for more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Wine Society's Generation Series California Merlot 2021
This exclusive merlot has been blended for us by Eric Aafedt and Jody Bogle from their enviable parcels of Lodi and Clarksburg fruit. Aged in American oak barrels for 12 months, there are mocha, strawberry and rich blackberry notes, balanced by velvety tannins that extend the flavours on the finish.
The Wine Society's Generation Series Barossa Shiraz 2023
A fantastic-value Australian exclusive that proved its quality under blind-tasting conditions in our 2024 Wine Champions blind tastings. Part of our limited-edition Generation Series range of wines celebrating our 150th anniversary year, this is a vibrant, medium bodied and aromatic shiraz which is a clever take on the style from Barossa before the 80s and 90s, when the trend for big, OTT and high-alcohol wines set-in. This is bursting with violets, purple fruit and pepper on the nose. The palate is fresh, zesty and juicy, with a floral finish. We wanted to show the elegance that Barossa shiraz is capable of, and one name stood out to create this special, limited-edition bottling – Whistler. Winners of our 2024 Climate & Nature fund, Whistler want to find an alternative way to control weeds that doesn’t require chemical treatments or tilling but contributes instead to moisture retention, carbon sequestration and soil health. Our funding will support a series of trials over three years with the results shared widely with other growers. The Wine Society's Generation Series Marlborough Sauvignon 2023
Marlborough Sauvignon started on its meteoric rise in the late 1980s and has since become one of the most loved wine styles in the world. We have worked with Ben Glover, star winemaker of the region, to produce a special wine to represent this icon within our special 150th Anniversary range. It comes from premium vineyards in the region and demonstrates all the delicious appeal that has led to the incredible popularity of New Zealand`s most successful wine export. It`s impeccably crisp, generous and citrusy; a classy, complete and delicious wine with all the appeal fans of good New Zealand sauvignon rightly expect. The Wine Society's Generation Series Valpolicella 2023
Italy's newest Master of Wine, Andrea Lonardi, made this wine exclusively for our anniversary celebration from corvina planted in one of the best single vineyards at higher altitude. There is a vibrancy and crunchy fruit that really represents contemporary Valpolicella in a chillable style. This is very fine and elegant, with bright red-cherry flavours and floral precision from the whole-berry start to fermentation, which has preserved these notes. The bright acidity on the palate is reflective of the harvest date and altitude of the vineyards, which also bring a peppery savoury note the the wine. The Wine Society's Generation Series Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie 2023
Looking for a special, great-value pinot grigio for this 150th anniversary-celebrating slot was a quite tricky until we spoke to the historic co-operative of Gambellara, where Alberto Marchisio really got behind the challenge. He has made a wine with weight and salinity that is particularly appealing. With additional yeast lees ageing to develop texture, this pear, apricot and lemon-scented wine has a savoury, food-friendly touch to the palate, with a briny lemon-rind note on the finish. Perfect by the glass, or with a wide range of food, though locally it is often enjoyed with rich polenta.
