The Society's Sicilian White 2023

This unique blend especially created for The Wine Society is 80% grillo, which gives a lovely rich apricot and peach-fruit flavour to this crisp Sicilian white, with 20% carricante, which lifts the freshness while adding an elegant mineral note to the perfume. Enjoy this versatile wine straight from the fridge or with food such as zingy salads, simply grilled seafood, chicken dishes, creamy pasta or risottos.

Italy £9.25 per bottle
2023 - 2025

The Society's Pinot Grigio 2023

This elegant pinot grigio, made exclusively for us, really hits the spot. With lemon and green apples on the nose, there is a refreshing minerality to the mouthfeel that lasts on the crisp finish.

The Society's Claret 2022

This friendly and fresh-tasting claret is one of The Wine Society`s most consistently popular wines. Supplied for over a quarter of a century by family-owned Maison Sichel, the bespoke blend varies from vintage to vintage, but merlot takes the lead role, and the wine is made without any oak to avoid masking its bright, red and black fruit flavours. This is made to be drunk young, on its own or with a wide variety of dishes. The new label for this perennial favourite shows three muses that can also be seen on the Grand Theatre opera house in Bordeaux itself. The 2022 is a blend of 58% merlot, 34% cabernet sauvignon, 5% cabernet franc, 2% petit verdot and 1% malbec.

France £7.95 per bottle
2023 - 2025

The Society's Picpoul de Pinet 2023

Picpoul de Pinet produces a clean, full-flavoured Languedoc white, lovely on its own or with olives and ideal with oysters, which is no coincidence since its spiritual home is by the sea, behind the oyster beds of the Bassin de Thau. It is refreshing and light-bodied in the 2023 vintage.

France £9.95 per bottle
2024 - 2025

The Society's French Pinot Noir 2023

Can you still find good under-£10 pinot noir that reflects the character of the prized but famously finickety variety that some call ‘the heartbreak grape`? This cherry-scented southern French favourite proved you can and it was duly voted a Wine Champion for 2024. A ‘sweetly fruited, delicate and very honest` expression, and a marvel for the money.

France £8.50 per bottle
2024 - 2027

The Society's White Burgundy 2023

A fine, dry white wine of great delicacy from the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, the warmest part of the region. The wine is ripe and round, with flavours of toasted hazelnut, apple and stone fruit, a hint of citrus and a lovely streak of minerality. The quality of the wine reflects the deep involvement in its selection by successive buyers and the skill of our ‘man on the ground`, Jean-Marc Darbon, who excels in sourcing the right blending options for us to work with. The zander (sandre in French) thrives in the rivers of Burgundy and is shown on this wine`s new label. It has a fine flavour because its carnivorous and so is much superior to that of weed-eating fish. It`s as good as wild brown trout to eat and appears frequently on menus in Burgundian restaurants. Don`t hesitate to try it.

France £11.95 per bottle
2024 - 2025

The Society's Portuguese Red, Península de Setúbal 2023

A 2024 Wine Championship winning combination of plump red and black fruits, juicy refreshment and a price described as ‘madness for this quality` when the winning bottle bag was undone. In a line-up of Portuguese reds that ‘showed what incredible value they are`, this member favourite really stood out.

Portugal £6.50 per bottle
2024 - 2026

The Society's White Rioja 2022

A classically styled white Rioja made from this Spanish region's traditional white grapes (mostly viura with some malvasia), with a proportion aged in barrel. It is lemony-gold in colour with aromas that are spicy and nutty, rather than fruity.

Spain £9.25 per bottle
2024 - 2026

The Society's Côtes-du-Rhône 2023

Ripe, fruity grenache-syrah blend from an outstanding producer in Vinsobres. Expect brambles and dark cherry and plums with hints of liquorice and clove spice. Juicy core and well handled tannins.

France £8.95 per bottle
2024 - 2026

The Society's Rioja Crianza 2020

Rioja is Spain's pre-eminent wine region, renowned for its graceful, stylish wines, mainly from the tempranillo grape. The Society's Rioja is made in the classic, traditional style that Society members so adore by Bodegas Palacio, who are based in the spectacular fortified village of Laguardia. Ageing in oak for 15 months results in a smooth, mellow and juicy tempranillo with red-fruit flavour complemented by hallmark savoury, leathery complexity. The ageing of wine in barrels is absolutely integral to winemaking in Rioja, and our new label for this member favourite pays homage to the cooperage tools that are used to make these traditional vessels.

Spain £8.95 per bottle
2024 - 2026

The Society's Sicilian Reserve Red 2021

Produced for us from nero d'Avola grapes grown in the Ragusa and Agrigento regions of Sicily, where the Mediterranean climate, tempered by a cooling coastal breeze, produces bold yet balanced reds. Partly aged in French oak, this raspberry and cherry-flavoured wine is ripe and refreshing, with a rounded, spiced finish.
