The Society's Claret 2020

This friendly and fresh-tasting claret is one of The Wine Society's most consistently popular wines. Supplied for over a quarter of a century by the family-owned Maison Sichel, the bespoke blend varies from vintage to vintage, but merlot takes the lead role, and the wine is made without any oak to avoid masking its bright red and black-fruit flavours. This is made to be drunk on its own or with a wide variety of dishes. The stylish new label features three Greek muses, inspired by those that adorn one of the city’s great landmarks, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux opera house. Please note: We've taken the step to remove the capsule (the covering on the top of the bottle) from this wine, as part of our sustainability strategy. This will have no adverse effect on the quality of the wine but reduces waste. The wine is also bottled in a light-weight glass bottle (420g or less) that reduces our carbon emissions, as it requires less materials to produce and less energy to transport.

2021 - 2023

The Society's Sicilian Reserve Red 2018

A deservedly popular, smooth, generous and fragrant wine made from the nero d'Avola grape. It’s produced for us from carefully selected parcels in both the Ragusa and Agrigento regions of Sicily, where the Mediterranean climate, tempered by a cooling coastal breeze, produces full-bodied reds. Partly aged in French oak barrels with a further 12 months' maturation in bottle before release.

Italy £8.75 per bottle
2021 - 2026

The Society's Pinot Grigio 2021

Our panel of tasters voted this a Wine champion in 2022. ‘This got me thinking about risotto!’ said Joanna Locke MW, and the panel agreed that this Italian pinot grigio’s soft texture, floral and citrus notes with a hint of almond would be the ideal pairing. Elegant, clean and refreshing.

The Society's French Dry White 2021

Frosts devastated much of the Languedoc in spring so a big change was needed to create the fragrant, fruity and dry 2021 which, if anything, is better than the 2020. Vermentino becomes the major element with an important addition of very fine chardonnay. A final third is made up by sauvignon, grenache and viognier.

The Society’s Verdicchio Classico 2021

One of Italy's best buys, Verdicchio makes wonderfully vibrant, crisp and refreshing wines. This is from a beautiful and organic single vineyard and has a full, dry style, with citrus, pear and mineral notes that slips down easily with or without food.

Italy £8.50 per bottle

The Society's English White 2021

Our flagship English white comes from Three Choirs in Gloucestershire, from the refreshing and aromatic 2021 vintage, with aromas of white-fruits, citrus and gooseberry, and a light, structured and pure palate. A blend of Madeleine Angevine, solaris, orion, seyval blanc, reichensteiner and bacchus, this is a delicious dry white and a real success story from such a tricky English vintage.

The Society's Rioja Crianza 2018

A smooth, fleshy and oaky Rioja, made in the traditional style from tempranillo aged in American and French oak. Round, juicy and mellow with the lovely leathery fruit aromas that are so typical of the classic style, produced for us by Bodega Palacios at Laguardia, a spectacular fortified village, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa.

The Society's Portuguese Red, Península de Setúbal 2021

From family-owned Casa Ermelinda Freitas, and the sandy soils of Setúbal, south-east of Lisbon, this friendly Portuguese red combines local grape castelão, which is all juicy red fruits, with a little alicante bouschet which brings darker black fruit and fleshiness.
