The Society's Austrian Riesling 2023

With delicate aromas of orange blossom and quince, this is a fine example of the crisp, dry style of riesling Austria does so well. Perfect on its own, with seafood, creamy dishes or, naturally, schnitzel. Weingut Wess is a small family-owned winery in the beautiful town of Krems in Lower Austria. Riesling is a passion for talented young winemaker Christina Wess and this exclusive wine is blended from a selection of vineyards across the Kremstal region.

The Society's French Pinot Noir 2023

Can you still find good under-£10 pinot noir that reflects the character of the prized but famously finickety variety that some call ‘the heartbreak grape`? This cherry-scented southern French favourite proved you can and it was duly voted a Wine Champion for 2024. A ‘sweetly fruited, delicate and very honest` expression, and a marvel for the money.

France £8.50 per bottle
2024 - 2027

Merlot, Pays d'Oc, Domaine du Bosc 2023

A lusciously round, ripe and quite full-bodied merlot from the hot and dry 2023 Languedoc vintage.

2024 - 2026

Salice Salentino Riserva, Vallone 2021

Made along the heel of Italy in sea-cooled but sunny Puglia, this old-vine negromaro is generous and soft, with blackcurrant and plum flavours. There's a little mocha and a sweeter finish point , with well judged ageing in large old oak barrels really enhancing the overall quality.

Italy £9.95 per bottle

Ruppertsberger Hoheburg Riesling Kabinett 2023

In a ripe vintage across Germany, this tastes rich with succulent flavours of peach and citrus. It comes from Ruppertsberg, a key village in the Pfalz with lots of great vineyards.

Domaine Tariquet Côté Chardonnay-Sauvignon, Côtes de Gascogne 2023

The two best-known white grape varieties come together to make a refreshing, light and fruity white from Gascony. Versatile enough to go with multiple dishes or to enjoy on its own. Gascony is a great place to buy wines from. Size and economies of scale help maintain low prices, while a climate that is warm, sunny but with no lack of water ensures consistent quality.

France £10.95 per bottle
2024 - 2025

Quinta da Alorna 'Lutra' Tinto, Tejo 2023

A supple and generous red hailing from the Tejo region of central Portugal, blending indigenous Portuguese grape varieties touriga nacional, castelão, and trincadeira, and showcasing a medium-bodied profile with soft tannins and vibrant red-berry notes, making it approachable and enjoyable for anyday drinking. The 2023 vintage brings ripe fruit characteristics and balanced acidity. A top pick for accessibility and great-value for drinking with or without food. Tejo, an area known for its rich winemaking heritage blending tradition with modern techniques, takes its name from the Tagus river that flows through it and, eventually, Lisbon, and Quinta da Alorna sits on its southern bank. The winery is raising awareness of one of the rivers inhabitants, the endangered lutra (European Otter), hence the label here. Needless to say, the wine is otterly delicious.

Portugal £8.75 per bottle
