Vanguardist La Petite Vanguard 'Corsair' Riverland 2023
The Vanguardist house style is balance, medium body and elegance. This is a fun and affordable example made from an unusual but very successful combination of Portuguese and Spanish grapes: prieto picudo, alfrochiero, mencia, graciano and tinta barroca. Vibrant, red-fruited and juicy on the nose, with a delicate note of dried herbs complementing the redcurrant and blueberry-fruit aromas. The charming palate is bursting with life, with fine tannins and a peppery twist on the finish. Bright, fresh and succulent, this confounds expectations of a full-throttle, concentrated Aussie stereotype. Best served lightly chilled, it's perfect with cold cuts, pork or umami-driven South-East Asian food.
