Weingut Emmerich Knoll Grüner Veltliner Ried Kreutles Federspiel, Wachau 2023
This is an impressive federspiel wine with a lighter body than the top-level smaragds but which therefore offers a wonderful mix of crispness and complexity, full stone fruit and a spicy finish. 2023 was an exceptional year for Austria making this a particularly smart wine given the heritage and prestige of the producer, and the Kreutles vineyard sits at the bottom of the Loibenberg with pure loess soils which are perfect for growing grüner veltliner.
