Weingut Bercher

The Bercher family own 42 hectares on the volcanic slopes of the volcanic stump of the Kaiserstuhl in south-west Baden that is widely regarded as the best vineyard area in this part of Germany. With a history dating back nearly 600 years the Berchers' family business is now run by the 9th and 10th generations, operating from a lovely property built in 1756.

Their holdings on four different parts of the Kaiserstuhl make them the second biggest privately owned producer in the area, but they are committed to high-quality wine production. They have vines in four sites – Burkheimer Feuerberg, Burkheimer Schlossgarten, Jechtinger Eichert and Sasbacher Limburg – each with a unique terroir of volcanic soils except for the Schlossgarten with its sandy-clay.

They also have an eclectic portfolio of grape varieties including pinot noir, pinot gris, pinot blanc, chenin blanc, scheurebe, riesling, muscat and chardonnay, not to mention orchards from which they make their own range of eaux de vie.
