Winter 1874 Fine Reds to Drink Now Case
Wines included
Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert, Paul Jaboulet Aîné 2018
From a very rich-tasting vintage for Thalabert, this is an exquisite expression of the syrah grape. Very fine Rhône red, packed with lush fruit with well-rounded tannins and a long finish.
Robert Oatley Limited Release Barossa Shiraz 2018
A beautifully polished Australian wine which is deep in colour and bursting with alluring black forest fruit and savoury pepper notes. Oak comes through on the nose but is not overpowering. Full-elegant and complex.
Bohórquez Reserva, Ribera del Duero 2011
An excellent, classically styled Spanish red from this leading fine wine region and a small property that members have followed eagerly for several years. Round and rich with smoky, tobacco flavour and wonderful harmony. It was so enjoyed by member Michael M. that he reviewed it as follows on 22 March 2022: 'At the treat end of my own pricing scale, but well worth it. Lovely fruit flavours and tobacco, plus maybe some eucalyptus…’
Château Peyrabon, Haut-Médoc 2016
The cabernet sauvignon grape ripened perfectly in 2016 and there’s a larger proportion than normal in this year’s blend (67%) lending the wine wonderful density and depth of flavour. A superb wine, ready to enjoy after some time in a decanter, but there’s no hurry to drink this.
Chianti Classico, Fontodi 2019
Stunning, textbook Chianti Classico from an excellent vintage and top producer. This has great intensity of perfume with cherry, cranberry, leather and spice developing. This is an elegant sangiovese with real finesse and class.
Rapsani Terra Petra, Thymiopoulos 2019
2019 is a brilliant vintage in northern Greece and this xinomavro, from Rapsani in the foothills of Mount Olympus, is blended with krassato and stavroto for colour and added richness. Expect a bewitching bouquet of cherries, cloves and forest floor not dissimilar to top Burgundy, and a full, refreshing palate.
