Six Wonders of the Wine World Case
Wines included
Côte-Rôtie La Landonne, Domaine Rostaing 2016
Outstanding Côte-Rôtie from one of the region's great names. The 2016 vintage was a triumph here, and the wine’s typically peppery, layered profile is conveyed in a more poised style than in some other recent vintages. A syrah of great charm and clarity. Low stock: limited to six bottles per member.
Château Lynch Bages, Pauillac 2009
The Cazes family believe this is even better than their 2005 and who are we to disagree? With stunning Pauillac power and depth, sweet fruit and, crucially, charm too, this is a world-class claret.
Champagne Charles Heidsieck Brut Millésime 2012
Champagne Charlie at its best, in one of the great modern vintages for the region. Dazzling aromas of fresh greengage and apricot mingle with complex underlying notes of biscuit, toasted hazelnut and light brioche. On the palate, its concentrated flavours are conveyed with brightness and balance thanks to the acidity in the wine and its fine chalky texture, ending with a touch of spice on the long, rounded finish. Fabulous wine.
Domaine de Montille Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Folatières 2017
The 2017 white Burgundy vintage represents a fine, cool year, enabling this wine to develop and exhibit the lovely floral aromas of this top, and quintessential, Puligny cru, Folatières. Perfectly situated mid-slope where the best soil, aspect and climate come together and produce beautifully balanced grapes which result in a wine of great harmony and poise.
Domaine Maume-Tawse, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
From shallow soil and good plant material, this is made from pinot tordu, a pinot noir clone with small yields and twisted, gnarled vines. The small amount of fruit produced is packed full of intense complexity, producing a wine with a fine perfume and an exquisite palate.
La Rioja Alta 890 Selección Especial Gran Reserva 2001
Gran Reserva Rioja doesn't get much better than this. From the sensational 2001 vintage, '890' is the epitome of aged Rioja. Highly complex, leathery and fine in texture, yet still with plenty of energy. Decant just before serving. This wine is a Museum Release: thanks to our member-owned co-operative model, our buyers are able to buy wines to mature in the perfect conditions of our temperature-controlled cellars and release them when they are ready to enjoy.
