"A lovely wine distinctly different than most French whites. Tangy Semillon, with the freshness colombard to zing it along. It reminds be a bit of the Riberio santo Dao. Give it 30mins in a decanter to settle, then it’s great on its own, fantastic with a stir fry. Odd bottle ..yo ho ho and bottle of rum ...and a name that makes you think of cheap spirits but it’s great. "

"Colour: Lustrous golden yellow.
Aroma: Open, honey, lanolin, lime, melon, orange rind, tropical fruit (figs), hay and a very evident overtone of oak (almonds/marzipan).
Taste: Dry, med-bodied, firm acidity, rich full palate of lime pie and cream, lemon curd and nuts with a long mouth-filling refreshing saline finish and aftertaste. Balanced.
Overall: Different but all the better for it. Delicious, a good mix of fruit and oak. Deep and concentrated but backed by a good streak of acidity, so not at all heavy. Great value, highly recommend."
Mr Gabriel Higgins (07-Feb-2020)
"Unusual blend of 70% semillon and 30% Colombard. Satisfying fruity taste overlaid by a mineral, or perhaps nutty, base - it's that bite (due to oak?) that makes it so more-able. "

"This reliable wine offers truly excellent value for money and I have bought it in most years since the early 'noughties'. Its slight flintiness is smoothed by oak and although the fruit varies with the year it is hefty enough to cope with a wide range of foods. It is not only a good wine, but the unusually deep punt and elegantly tapered bottle often attract favourable comment from guests. Its longevity is good too. 'Accidental' finds of cellared bottles that should by year be well past their best drinking date have never disappointed."

"Ripe, cooked citrus
fruits with sweet vanilla accompaniment, like a lemon meringue in liquid form.
Dry, though, with lovely creamy texture. Delivers lots of flavour at the price.
Scrumptious and very good value. - Richard Hemming"

"Cracking value for
this unusual tangy blend of 70% semillon and 30% colombard, given complexity
and weight from barrel fermentation. Great weight of waxy lemons and creamy
cashews, yet balanced by refreshing acidity. A fine discovery to show off at
your next dinner party. - Tina Gellie"

"Unfortunately, when we recently tried to order more of this lovely wine it was out of stock. We hope the Society manage to get more of it soon without too big an increase in price because one of the great things about it is its VFM. Deep yellow with a distinct and intense flavour that lasts, we found it goes with any food, winter and summer."
Mr Charles Rush (20-Jan-2018)
"I come back to this wine vintage after vintage. It is such a successful blend of grapes that it begs the question why more Bordeaux whites do not use this combination. However, so well are the semilion’s butteriness and the colombard’s floral character expressed that I suspect that the success is largely down to talent in the vineyard and winery."
Mr T P Ensor (01-Dec-2017)
"Far too much oak for my liking presumably as a consequence of barrel fermentation. The overpowering vanilla flavours mask any fruit."

"Perhaps the most pleasurable white I've opened from TWS this year (on a par with TWS Champagne Brut NV - which is high praise) - please refer to the other reviews for a description, they are all pretty accurate. Definite re-order before it sells out."
Mr Tim Potts (08-Jul-2017)
"The lack of sauvignon means there is little Bordeaux about it - but that shouldn't put you off. Great big mouthful of semillion. Waxy and fragrant. Just had with asparagus risotto and that some how worked.

"Shy and retiring this is not but rather big, broad flavours of yellow peach with some ginger. Dry and long, this wine is full of character and is all the better for having some air time. Great match for strong food flavours. Semillon may start to shine through after some time in bottle."

wine has big, broad flavours of dusky yellow peach. Dry and long, it is full of
character and is all the better decanted. An unusual blend of 70% semillon and

"
Fragrant
with grapefruit and creamy citrus and a touch of something floral. Full
bodied, generous and almost honeyed even though it is bone dry. Very crisp,
almost sour, freshness, suggesting it would be great at the table as well as
on its own. Not sure I would place it in Bordeaux. Good value. 16/20

"A barrel-fermented
blend of 70% semillon and 30% Colombard. What, no sauvignon? No, it's unsual
now, but apparently colombard was traditionally planted in the Bourg area. As
for the wine, it has zingy, crisp apple and lemon peel fruit around a waxy,
nutty, mineral core. 87/100"

"There's an attractive
smoky quality to the aromas of this dry white blend of semillon, and, yes,
surprisingly perhaps, colombard, along with a crisp, dry intense fruit quality
underpinned by an almost salty, mineral dry finish that clearly cries out for
nibbles or seafood. 87/100 - The Wine Gang"

"I very much liked the 2010. With its gentle vanilla undertones and creamy texture it was every inch a Graves, at a great price. The 2011 has many similar facets, but does have more of a sweet, almost coconut finish (presumably from American oak) which some will find just a little sickly. Let's hope this is ironed out in the 2012."
