The German Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (aka VDP) unites 197 of Germany’s finest wineries under one umbrella organisation that serves to promote the country’s top wines and estates. Membership is by invitation only, issued only to those deemed to be the crème de la crème.
In this walkaround tasting, the first of its
kind for The Wine Society in terms of
sheer scale, we bring together a number
of producers from across Germany
including von Schubert and Bürklin-Wolf.
They will present a range of different
vintages including a sneak preview of the
Riesling, Germany’s ‘king of grapes’, will
take centre stage in a line-up designed
to show off the many facets to its
personality, from youthful and spritzy
to gracefully aged and mellow, and from
bone dry to unctuously sweet. We’ll also
take the opportunity to show many of
Germany’s other wine highlights, including
some interesting blends, weissburgunders
(pinot blanc) and the outstanding
spätburgunders (pinot noir) that give
Burgundy a run for its money for sheer
charm and elegance.
Only around 5% of Germany’s vineyards
are included in the VDP classification
which makes this an exclusive club indeed.
We do hope that you will join us for
privileged access to it.
