Toni Jost is currently owned and operated by Peter Jost, who took over for his father in 1975, and his daughter Cecilia, the winery’s sixth generation winemaker. The family has been growing vines in the Bacharach area of Germany’s Mittelrhein for over 180 years and the estate continues to go from strength to strength.
Peter and Cecilia currently own 15 hectares of vines, which include most of the outstanding Hahn vineyard which rises from the banks of the Rhine, with its steep slopes of dark slate soil and has been deemed a Grosses Gewächs site. Around a third of the vines lie in the Rheingau region at Wallufer Walkenberg, an outstanding site which is protected from the wind by Taunus mountains, particularly suited to riesling.
Join Cecilia as she discusses what makes the wines of Toni Jost so special, with an emphasis on riesling which produces such unique and special wines in Germany’s Mittelrhein and Rheingau regions, finishing with a tasting of the below wines:
Bacharacher Hahn Kabinett Toni Jost 2018
Weissburgunder Mittelrhein Toni Jost 2018
But don’t worry if you don’t have the wines, these tastings are designed to be just as enjoyable with a glass of anything you fancy!
