Founded in 1975 by Bernardo Weinert, a Brazilian businessman of German origin, Cavas de Weinert has gone on to become one of highest-acclaimed wineries in Argentina. Bernardo invested heavily from the start, determined to make a top-quality wine in the best way possible, and this ethos persists to this day with Iduna, the second generation, and Bodegas Weinert’s commercial director.
Produced by winemaker Hubert Weber, Weinert’s red wines are noticeable for being aged two to five years, and sometimes longer, in old foudres in a deep, cool, granite cellar. Over time this produces soft, mellow reds with the tertiary aromas of leather, tobacco and cedar for which the Bodega’s wines are renowned.
In this tutored tasting Iduna, Hubert and Toby Morrhall, The Society’s buyer for South America, will taste three of Bodegas Weinert’s iconic red wines.
Weinert Carrascal Corte Clásico Mendoza 2017 (AR4321, £10.95 a bottle)
Weinert Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 (AR4131, £13.95 a bottle)
Weinert Cavas de Weinert Mendoza 2009 (AR4331, £22.00 a bottle)
Together they will taste and discuss the nuances of these three wines and chat about what makes the wines of Bodegas Weinert so unique and so special and we would encourage you to join them.
We hope to see you (virtually) there.
