From his Hemelrand cellar in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley above the coastal town of Hermanus in South Africa, Chris Alheit continues to produce a stand-out range of authentic Cape wines. These wines, from parcels of cherished and nurtured old vineyards, impress our buyer for South Africa, Jo Locke MW, every year and have become a firm favourite with members.
His reputation for making some of the most notable chenins and semillons in South Africa (and arguably the world) continues to grow and for someone so young, there is undoubtedly a bright future ahead.
In this, Chris’s first virtual event with The Wine Society, we deep dive into what makes Alheit such an influential winery – from terroir to traditional varieties; small ‘treasure’ plots to working with family.
We’ll discuss his ‘star’ wine, Cartology, which shot Chris to cult status in its first vintage in 2011, alongside other wines including Vine Garden, as well as discussing an exciting new release, exclusive to The Wine Society! Not to be missed!
