We all have our own Christmas traditions, especially when it comes to the food you serve on the big day, and this year, even with social distancing in place, will be no different. However, when it comes to matching the wines to your favourite spread, where do you start?
Which wine is heroic enough to stand up to all the trimmings? What will be a match for the richness of Christmas pudding? What should you serve with the cheeseboard, and which bottle should you squirrel away for the leftover turkey curry?
In this virtual event we will attempt to take the headache out of these Christmas culinary conundrums as armed with a selection of wines and nibbles, all of which will be suggested in advance, we will spend an hour exploring the principles behind successful food and wine matching.
Wines to be tasted are:
Unfortunately, in contrast to previous years, we can’t get you all round the table (or at The Society’s HQ) and so this year we are leaving the food up to you.
Whether you’d like to cook up a traditional Christmas Dinner for the event or would prefer to go for the more low-key option of grabbing a ‘Christmas’ sandwich from your local shop, the choice is yours.
For those of you who would like to join in with some nibbles here are some suggested canapé ideas for the evening:
- Smoked salmon blinis
- Mini sausages wrapped in streaky bacon
- Mini Yorkshire puddings with roast beef
- Brie and cranberry filo tartlets
- Sprouts with crème fraiche and chestnuts (pancetta optional)
- Ham and stem ginger on toasts
- Crispy vegetable peelings with curried salt
- Bread sauce and crispy stuffing balls
- Mince pies, or a Christmas pudding and mini Stollen bites
With plenty of time for questions and discussion, this workshop is guaranteed to get us all in the mood for Christmas.
