NV VINTAGE - MEMBER REVIEWS
"What great value for money; we keep a bottle in the door of the fridge and it seems to keep well for weeks. We love the classic fino style, it goes well with fish and other lighter foods."
Mr Robert D Clifford-Wing (07-May-2010)
"Have enjoyed this sherry for over 30 years; an excellent aperitif which I find sets up the appetite better than G&T or dry white wine. My only cavil is that I find the plastic capsule around the top very fiddly to open."
Mr Thomas D Farrell (05-May-2010)
"This is one of our staples from our Society and great value for money."
Mr Edward D H Brookfield (16-Nov-2009)
"We thought this a nice clean, dry fino which we enjoy drinking very much. Best drunk chilled."
Mr Edward J Mansfield (22-Aug-2009)
"I believe this sherry offers exceptional value and the quality has been so consistently good that it has now become a regular purchase."
Mr Keith A Johnson (20-Aug-2009)
"Fresh, not overly-dry, so great with food as well as an apéritif. Very good value."
Mr Jake Berger (18-Aug-2009)
"Perhaps not an ideal comment but my wife is so fond of this it is the only sherry we ever buy."
Mr Mervyn Williams (17-Aug-2009)
"I have purchased this for many years now as it is my wife's favourite for home consumption comparing very favourably with the well known brand of the same style. Its dryness is excellent. However, removing the seal using the "tear strip" remains a challenge after all this time."
Mr Kevin Widdick (16-Aug-2009)
"We have been sipping the Society's Fino for more years than I care to remember and have found it to be consistently good and very good value."
Cdr J.A.C. Moulson OBE (16-Aug-2009)
"Been drinking the Society's Fino for 20 years and intend to continue for a good while yet! It is excellent value in comparison with other finos or indeed with the Society's own Claret or Cote du Rhone. Only pity is that the new label lacks distinction and eye appeal."
Mr John R Hennessy (16-Aug-2009)
"The Society's Fino sherry is an ideal aperitif or can be drunk to accompany and enhance food. It has a dry but tangy flavour that lasts in the mouth and leaves a slightly salty after-taste."
Mr James C Bischoff (13-Aug-2009)
"Good nose, with a hint of flor; clear Fino taste, with a long finish."
Dr G J Ross McHardy (13-Aug-2009)
"I/we consider the Society's Fino as the best available for the price. There is only one problem about it and that is that it does not come in litre bottles!"
Dr John Parkinson (11-Aug-2009)
"We have drunk the Society's Fino Sherry for years and guests who ask for Fino sherry are always given it. Knowing several other brands of Fino Sherry we are in no doubt that it is the best, a judgement with which friends concur. There are two points that would make it even more acceptable. First it would be a huge help if there was some means such as a pulloff strip to help in the removal of the metal seal around the cork stopper. Second to be available as Amontillado is in litre bottles.

John Vaughan (10-Aug-2009)
"I like this Fino - crisp, clear, clean. Best kept in the refrigerator and enjoyed cold.
"
Mr Edward J Mansfield (10-Aug-2009)
"Excellent good value for money product to be enjoyed pre-dinner or with any typical Mediterranean starter. At only 15% alc.content it is a fine product. I visited the producer earlier this year and was very impressed."
Alistair G St C Napier (09-Aug-2009)
"After a recent trip to Seville, Cordoba and Granada we rediscovered our taste for Fino sherry and, having sampled all the Wine Society had on offer including the Tio Pepe, the Society's Fino is our firm favourite. I am afraid to say there is always a bottle in the fridge and it is a wonderful drink at the end of the working day. A refreshing taste that is as a good with the meal as before."
Dr M Porcheret (09-Aug-2009)
"Excellent value for a delicious Fino which we have been ordering for many years."
Mr Charles W Reynard (08-Aug-2009)
"The Society's Fino is a delightful, balanced aperitif and we always have a bottle in the cooler for our own use or to share with friends."
Mr Douglas B Parkes (08-Aug-2009)
"Excellent value for money. The obvious comparison with Tio Pepe shows a taste almost as good, just as dry, and an ideal regular aperitif at the price."
Mr R W Thomson (08-Aug-2009)
"For decades I have been a Tio Pepe person. From time to time I buy the Wine Society Fino and although it is very pleasant it lacks that extraordinary 'steeliness' which one finds in Tio Pepe. Sorry about that!"
Mr Thomas C F Whitton (07-Aug-2009)
"I much enjoy your Fino, and can not understand why it has such a poor press. My family think I am really bad drinking sherry and will shortly be under the arches at St Pancras Station! Seriously, it is a great aperitif, both ways, from the fridge, and at room temp.
P.S. in my eighty second year I can not handle it, as of yesteryear."
Mr J M G Wright (07-Aug-2009)
"We have been buying this as a staple pre-dinner drink for at least 20 years, and the quality to price ratio never ceases to impress."
Andrew J D Johnson Esq (07-Aug-2009)
"I have enjoyed The Society's Fino for many years and trust that I can continue to do so. It is, perhaps, not quite up to Tio Pepe standard but for the price it's marvellous!"
James Clinch Esq (07-Aug-2009)
"We drink the Fino for preference. It is a wonderful aperitif and much better than any proprietary brand we have found. Our only complaint is that the bottles seem to "evaporate" rather quickly! We find that it is also very acceptable when served to others. Straight from the cupboard or refrigerated, a very welcome start to dinner"
Mr Peter H Rollin (06-Aug-2009)
"A very nice light aperitif to drink straight from the fridge - my wife's regular tipple!"
Dr Richard L Elliott (06-Aug-2009)
"A no nonsense, good value, true fino. An excellent aperitif that can be offered with confidence."
Mr Ford (06-Aug-2009)
"Remarkable value. Excellent as a light aperitif that leaves the palate ready to appreciate the wine and food that its owner hopes will be following!"
L Goulding Esq (06-Aug-2009)
"The wonder of Fino - thank heavens it remains deeply unappreciated. It (and its best buddy Manzanilla) is the best drink, at the best value of any wines and spirits. It is great in Winter as the perfect aperitif. It is even greater in Summer, chilled at any time or on its own. In Andalucia and 38C it's the ONLY drink ! With Bodegas closing down and merging there is a finite amount of production. Should the wider world ever realise what a gem they are missing, prices would inevitably rise sharply. Cheers."
Mr A Stafford Green (06-Aug-2009)
"I am one of those people who has never forsaken sherry! The Society's Fino is of a consistent quality, clean and fresh tasting and excellent value for money. Few people realise what an excellent partner it makes for some foods - should we persuade lots more people to drink it and therefore push the price up or keep quiet and hope it stays as it is - superb value?
"
Mr A David Wright (06-Aug-2009)
"Very good value and underrated, as with many sherries. I used to prefer manzanilla but I think the fino has more flavour. It can cope with difficult starters like artichokes and asparagus."
Dr Gavin L Young (06-Aug-2009)
"Excellent, light fino. I have to admit I regard it as a glass of white wine served in decent measure, not a small aperitif. That way it drinks very well on its own or to accompany a light lunch! Good value too, one of the Society's best products in my view."
Mr Thomas R Cole (06-Aug-2009)
"This is an excellent Fino and a worthy replacement for my usual tipple, La Ina. It is light, delicate and benefits from being kept in the fridge and served cold. I thoroughly recommend it to any regular Fino drinkers who do not wish to pay a fortune for something very little better."
Lt Col Thomas Irlam (06-Aug-2009)
"I have sampled most of the dry sherries in the Society's range and I find the in house Fino to be a most palatable wine.
I choose it, not because of the very reasonable price, but for its quality. An excellent pre-prandial.
"
Mr Peter King (06-Aug-2009)
"Excellent value and much appreciated by family and friends."
Mr G Nicolas M Mellersh (05-Aug-2009)
"I have always been a great fan of The Society's Fino and was pleased to see it back on the shelves in Montreuil."
T J Cocking (05-Aug-2009)
"Delightful Fino, cool, dry and fragrant with that delicious, slightly "silky" taste one gets with the best Finos. Delicious as an aperitif or with shellfish or tapas. Amazing value!"
Mrs Eileen Velarde (05-Aug-2009)
"I have bought, and enjoyed, the Society's Fino several times - and will do so again. Nicely cooled, it is a wonderful aperitif, nutty and stimulating. I have always wished, however, that it came in a 1 litre bottle, like the Society's Amontillado; please consider this."
Mr Alastair Scott (05-Aug-2009)
"Excellent value for money. Our "house" dry sherry. As an aperitif this goes down very well with pre-dinner nibbles - especially garlic-stuffed olives."
Mr Donald E Isles (05-Aug-2009)
"For many years I have enjoyed good sherry at numerous locations; at home I always keep a stock of The Society's Fino
and I find that it is very popular with our guests."
Mr Ian O Nichols (05-Aug-2009)
"Very enjoyable Fino. Some time since I've had sherry [how fashions change] but this has tempted me, provided the summer re-emerges, to add Fino to the range of crisp aperitifs. This wine had really good 'sherry' bite and depth. It was clean, straightforward and good value."
Mr A K Dawson (05-Aug-2009)
"The Society's Fino has been a part of my life for over forty years. When I was young I drank it in thimble sized glasses savouring its dry zest on palate. Then I drank it in tumblers 'on the rocks' until I realised that this was to lose it's special nose: better by far to cool it but not chill. Now I think it a wonderful wine to start as an appetite-raising aperitif in a copita and carry on to the dining table. Married to smoked salmon or freshly boiled shellfish and even a smoky chorizo you are just step away from a kind of perfection"
Mr Christopher P E Cook (05-Aug-2009)
"I have bought it for years; you have to pay a lot more to equal it."
N S R Duffin Esq (05-Aug-2009)
"This is an excellent quality dry sherry, extremely good value and always consistent. Strongly recommended!"
Professor C Paris (05-Aug-2009)
"This lovely, crisp refreshing sherry is a terrific everyday treat. It sets the palate up so much better than spirits and is always a revelation when drunk with smoked fish. And under 6 quid a bottle too."
Mr David Burn (05-Aug-2009)
"Some may think it a sacrilege, but I buy this for cooking! For my taste, it's too dry for drinking (unless highly chilled) but I find it excellent in Chinese style cooking, as a substitue for rice wine."
Mr Richard J Lindsell (05-Aug-2009)
"I drink quite a lot of the Society's Fino and find it good value for money."
Mr Howard M Stratford (05-Aug-2009)
"A delicious, bone-dry Fino, much enjoyed and commented on by visitors - I provide it as a pre-lunch aperitif and it is very popular!"
Sam G Dewhurst Esq (05-Aug-2009)
"A pleasing dry and tangy taste. A dry sherry par excellence. Reliably high quality at a competitive price."
Mr John C Churchill (05-Aug-2009)
"A pleasing musty nose with a hint of good retsina, clean sharp taste but disappointingly short aftertaste."
Mr Peter M O'Hare (05-Aug-2009)
"This is real favourite of mine! Drunk as a prepandial palate clearer, as an accompanying glass to smoked salmon and a poached egg..... it fits perfectly. Clear and pale with a real Jerez nose a remarkable buy by the Wine Society. My thanks."
Mr Nicholas K C Whalley (05-Aug-2009)
