"Thought this was really nice. Colour seemed a bit thin at first glance but bursting with lovely deep fruit on the nose and the palate. Nice bit of tannin and spice to finish off. As others have said, a great wine for quaffing on its own which slips down very easily. "

"Like many reviewers here I found this smooth, balanced and perfectly pleasant without being particularly memorable. A good red for drinking without food, however."

"Soft, fruity, and err...thats it. Nothing wrong with it but entirely forgetable. Far more interesting wines at similar price point elsewhere in the WS."

"For the price, this is a thoroughly delectable wine. On the nose it's got nice hints of blackcurrant and forest floor; on the palate a mild sweetness and very moreish. "

"I tend to agree with Mr Worth. There is nothing wrong with this wine per se. Its just a bit thin and somewhat characterless, even given its appropriately modest price point. It can be most accurately and completely described as "red wine". I think there is much more interest to be had elsewhere on the society list for the same money "

"Delicious quaffing wine with a lovely acidity that helps it slip down a treat. Much prefer this to the French Red it replaced. Great value fir money. "

"Would give 3.5 if that were an option.
Nothing ‘wrong’ with it, just not very inspiring either.
colour seemed quite weak, a little see-through compared to other reds.
Taste is clear, but no depth or body to it."

"Love the label - very honest & a pretty drawing of flowers and red fruit - I do like the illustrations on the new 'benchmark' TWS bottles. Which also sums up the wine, soft & rounded, some spice (mulled wine), I can see this turning up at Xmas gatherings (no more than 6, so that's a glass each) "

"Was very sorry to see the Full French Red disappear and was wary of its replacement, especially given some of the early reviews. HOWEVER - I love it, my family loves it as do my so called friends who used to chide me for producing yet another bottle of the Full French (but they never refused it and were always waiting for refill). So I told them they'd never again get the Full French from me and produced The Society's French Grenache which they are really impressed with and reckon it's a level above the FFR. When I told them it was under £7 a bottle they did not believe me. So all in all, a great replacement for a Society legend."

"I love this wine, I find I order it every time. It's full bodied, probably a bit "in your face" (unsubtle), but as an unsophisticated wine drinker this suits me fine. I don't pair with food, but always think.... "mmmm I need cheese" when drinking this. I really like it and will continue to order."

"If ever you wanted a guaranteed headache, then drink a few glasses of this 'full-bodied' Granache. Please can you revert to producing the Society's "much-loved" French Full Red which I have been enjoying for some 20 years!? I imagine some young upstart buyer thinking it would be a good idea to ruin the enjoyment of thousands of members who regularly bought the French Full Red as an everyday drinking wine. Please bring it back! ... Jules Gammond"

"I have to agree with a previous reviewer that this wine is rather 'one dimensional' and not very interesting, I am not sure what the thinking was behind replacing the Society's very popular Full French Red but it hasn't worked in my opinion. This is in contrast with the Society's newish Syrah, which is excellent. Perhaps tinker with the blend and get better results next year."

"I agree with correspondents who observe that this wine is not as good as the old WS French Full Red but it's not a bad glug. In my opinion it is best served decanted as I was surprised how fierce it was when I tasted the first glass after opening the bottle."

"This is no more than OK. It is no replacement for the Full French Red, in my opinion the best value red on the market.
Deeply disappointed in the Wine Society - it is a mistake to phase out the 'Full French Red'. Think again please."

"A nice wine for drinking at any time on it's own or with anything you fancy especially during the summer where a little chilling in the fridge won't go amiss. Could do with being slightly drier for my taste. It does not really replace the Full French it is supposed to be a replacement for as it has lost quite a lot of "fullness" and that quintessential French cafe taste."

"Its OK but no more, and three stars is generous. I find it one dimensional compared to the Full French Red it is supposed to replace. I find that Domaine Raynier, Saint Chinian is, at least with the 2018 vintage, a much better replacement."
