"Very impressed. A lovely dry white clean on the palate and very drinkable. This is a wine I could buy by the case without hesitation. "
Mr Anthony Johnson (29-Jun-2020)
"Fruity, floral and refreshing. A good mid-week white
3 stars - "A good wine that left you feeling quite pleased with the value, and which you'd be happy to vouch for."

Mr Frederick Matthews (01-Mar-2020)
Mr Richard Simon (23-Jan-2020)
"The society's Verdicchio has been one of my regular purchases for many years, but my feeling is that the 2018 vintage is not quite upto the standard of earlier vintages (I can remember 2015 and 16 but not 17). The 2018 - to me - doesn't seem to be quite as harmonious in that the balance between the fruit / acidity and body doesn't seem quite right. Hard to put my finger on - but I'm holding off buying another case at the moment, at least until I've tried another bottle (I have 2 left of the 2018). "
Mr T Penn (20-Jan-2020)
"I am very surprised some members only consider this a 3 star wine as it is in my humble opinion worth more than that! Verdicchio can be petty borign and I would never say that about this wine. I have drunk it both on its own and with food and found it equally acceptable. It may be a tad too dry for some tastes so don't select it unless you do like dry wines. I commend the Society on finding this excellent source of affordable yet very good example of one of Italy's best known,( but not always best quality,) wines"
Mr Charles Crawfurd (12-Jan-2020)
"Excellent value. A classic at a very reasonable price. The perfect aperitif!"
Mr Shivaji De (13-Oct-2019)
"A longstanding personal favourite. Serve cold and enjoy."
Mr Donald S Fullarton (13-May-2019)
"Echo similar comments made. Fairly decent but possibly too acidic to have on its own. The grapefruit taste was really refreshing after a long day. "
Mr Toby Brown (25-Apr-2019)
" Quite a full bodied wine but somewhat more "grapefruit" than I was expecting. The wine was also surprisingly rather frizzante which added to the acidity. As a result, I don't think I could drink it without food and I'm afraid that I will not be re ordering. Had it been at a higher price point I would have given it 2 stars."
Dr Paul Stockbridge (20-Apr-2019)
"Citrus and peach aromas, with crisp peach and citrus flavours. A well made wine."

"Crisp, perfectly drinkable - good without being great"
Mr Philip Stirups (18-Feb-2019)
"A regular purchase for us and is an utterly reliable and excellent value-for-money white. Good enough when friends come round and even at a dinner party, but also for 'any day' easy drinking. Served chilled, it is fruity and dry and very moreish and friends have always say what an enjoyable white this is. "
Mr Nick Hutton (31-Dec-2018)
"Great value all round. Quite a straightforward wine but enough apricot fruit on the nose and palate to make it interesting,"
Mr Andrew Milton (10-Nov-2018)
Mr Piers Beckley (03-Oct-2018)
"This is our regular house wine and at £7.50, good value for this quality. Nicely chilled it is v easy drinking "

"A crisp dry white with a sharp, but pleasant apple taste. As it lingers on the palate a smooth buttery finish predominates. A thoroughly enjoyable wine with or without food."
Mr Peter Laggan (28-Sep-2018)
"Very pale lemon, green hints. Light, floral, green Apple. Lemon, melon on the nose. Youthful. Dry, med+ acidity, med alcohol, med- body, medium finish. Good quality, what you’d expect."
Mr Andrew B De Csillery (18-Aug-2018)
"Bought a case of it on special offer.
A decent enough wine, but not as good as the 2015. More acidic and less body, rather thin. Drinkable but not remarkable. "
Mr Mark Colman (23-Jul-2018)
"Clean and crisp with some added complexity. Melon, peach and pear with some spritz. Very drinkable. "
Mr Tom Rodger (03-Jun-2018)
"The society's Verdichio has been one of my regular purchases over many a year. The 2015 was excellent and if my memory serves me well the 2016 is as well. A good white wine when you want something dry but with just a little more body in it. "
Mr T Penn (24-May-2018)
"Good value, flavourful"
Dr George Farmer (19-Apr-2018)
"Nice enough but sadly not a patch on the 2015 which was excellent."
Mr Bob White (02-Apr-2018)
"Really liked this! Dry and a bit complex."
Ms Marianna Vogt (02-Nov-2017)
"A very surprising wine, in the positive sense. Slightly petillant, not dissimilar to Portugese whites, but then you get an almost buttery roundness whilst still retaining a dry, fruity edge. Excellent value for the money."
Mr Terry Deamer (12-Oct-2017)
Mr Kristian Cassar (01-Oct-2017)

"A little light and lemony for my taste but I can see why a lot of people will love this. Certainly excellent value. Needs to be drunk with food I think, probably best with seafood.
"
Mr Ray Mount (10-Aug-2017)
"I have always liked Verdicchio and was fortunate enough when in Jesi to visit the excellent "enoteca" there to try the huge range of styles on offer, sadly it only showed that what is available in the UK is just the tip of the iceberg.
Most Verdicchios fall into the just another Italian white category and that is a shame, and frankly the choice is very limited.
This one I found to be overly sharp and lemony, not characteristic of the wine generally and tasting of unripe fruit, disappointed there are better out there."
Mr John Wigglesworth (19-Jul-2017)
"Excellent value, easy-drinking, uncomplicated white. Would accompany a wide range of foods but also pleasant to drink on its own. Could become my new 'house white'"
Mr Bob White (13-Jun-2017)
"Full, round and mineral. A diner's delight. Dry with bitter almond rolling off stern yet lightly honeyed fruit. Grilled hake . Worth more."
Mr Alan Kingsbury (12-May-2017)
"A white to order very month. Very pale with translucent edges. Pear drops and peaches with cream. A little apricot. Salty and yet sweet with just enough tanginess. A long dry finish. Lovely."
Mr Peter Nelson (29-Mar-2017)
"For the price you can't go wrong. Easy to drink."
Mr Gordon Allan (10-Mar-2017)
"Not brilliant as an aperitif but god with food."
Mr Giles Manners (22-Feb-2017)
"Hugely quaffable: a delightful and refreshing wine at a good price. It's become our house white, and makes a great aperitif. Strongly recommended.

Mr David Tomlinson (27-Jan-2017)
"Lovely stuff. I'm a big fan of Italian wines and this is a good example of why!"
Mr Michael Ahlquist (01-Dec-2016)
"who can fault this wine at the price? a true 'with or without' food champion of the Italian whites! Citrus (lemon) on the nose, even a little tropical which makes it a pleasure to go onto taste. dry, well rounded, full and fruity. Well done WS for finding us this wine :-)"
Mr Glen Hayden (03-Nov-2016)
"After being a member of the society for almost 12 months now and having tried maybe 30 whites from £5 to £12 I can honestly say that this is the best white yet.
Will be ordering every month from now on."
Mr Jason Mossman (12-Oct-2016)
Mr Robert Hudson (12-Aug-2016)
"(Reviewing the 2014; comments apply to the 2013 too.)
If you were to join The Wine Society only to buy case of this Verdicchio on an annual basis you would still have the best value wine deal around. Drink year round, but particularly from Spring through early Autumn, with lemon & thyme roast chicken, salad, and flatbread, and you will achieve near nirvana. Fresh, fragrant, vibrant, and with a light spritz; your friends who don't like wine will like it, your friends who like wine will love it, and your friends who vaunt the Côte d'Or will be dumbstruck. Just don't tell anyone it costs £6.75 a bottle!"

"Excellent flavourful wine, lasts 3 days out of the fridge!, super vfm."
Mr David McDowell (11-Jul-2015)
"Fore palette is light and then comes a nice solid finish, very easy drinking and tasty. You could serve this to people who don't usually drink wine and they would find it accessible yet it's good enough to be appreciated by wine drinkers. Ideal as an aperitif at a function perhaps."
Mr Anthony O'Halloran (15-Jun-2015)
"I was totally unfamiliar with this wine but recently purchased a couple of bottles out of curiosity. It is a superb easy drinking wine that is ideal as a aperitif and an excellent partner for fish, chicken and spicy dishes. It is now on my list of must stock wines.

Mr Peter R Cook (21-Feb-2015)
"Great quaffable white at a very modest price. Will be definitely adding to the wish list as a prompt for next time."
Mr Robert Freeman (07-Dec-2014)
"Wonderful bottle for the price. Bone dry white. Good one to have in the cabinet."
Mr Craig Johnson (15-Mar-2014)
"Really delicious. Dry yet flavoursome and rounded. A real bargain. And I found it tastes just as good the next day. My favourite of the Society's 'normal' range so far."
Mr Andrew Mason (06-Sep-2013)
"9th August. Most of the wines I drink carry over to the next day and nearly all of them seem to improve. However this wine is just a shadow of the pleasant wine I drank yesterday and was no better than the cheap supermarket Muscadet that followed. Today is just a ‘bad wine day’. 10th August.
Funnily enough the supermarket wine has blossomed into an acceptable Muscadet. I find it very confusing trying to become knowledgeable on wine.
"
Mr Bill George (10-Aug-2013)
"I used to drink Verdicchio back in the ‘70s when it came in a fancy bottle and I enjoyed it then but over the years I guess I have become a bit snobbish and expect every wine to be a challenge and I have to ‘sniff and gargle’ everything I drink. It was a pleasure to return after so many years to this wine that can be enjoyed for what it is – a dry, smooth, flavourful, uncomplicated wine. A perfect aperitif and summer wine"
Mr Bill George (08-Aug-2013)
"Very good and reliable dry white wine. Incredible value a great favourite."
Dr John Baston (25-Sep-2012)
"This is a really nice white. Very crisp and fresh tasting. Highly recommended.
"
Mr Simon Raybould (14-May-2012)
"A really nice dry quoffable white. This may become my staple white especially in summer months."
Mr Richard Morton (07-Apr-2012)
"Very nice melony nose, expressive, sweet and musky. Lots of melon and lime peel on the attack, smooth mouthfeel. Nice acidity before dying slightly at the end. Finish a bit watery. Still good for the price though."
Mr William Davies (09-Aug-2011)
"Having enjoyed this speculative purchase all winter, I can't wait for the warm weather when I can chuck it into an ice bucket and drink it in the garden with a pal or two - lovely and well worth a try."
Mrs Susan Bell-Proctor (04-Apr-2011)
"A very enjoyable wine and, frankly, something of a surprise. Verdicchio to my mind was one of those old fashioned wines that I hadn't drunk for years. This one is modern, characterful, with great depth. I sip it as I type... !"
Dr John G D Carpenter (15-Oct-2010)
"I am budgeting between £5 and £7 per bottle and the Society's Verdicchio would be my top choice for a dry old world white. Such a flavoursome grape! The old world red that I enjoy most would be the Society's Rioja at the same price. Both wines demonstrate superb quality IMHO."
Mr Chris Barclay (15-Aug-2010)
"The taste of summer which can be sipped throughout the year: this is the wonderful example of Verdicchio by The Wine Society's own label. It tastes exactly as it described on the bottle label - unoaked, full of fruit, dry, appetising. It is beautifully crisp, encouraging you to the next sip, or glass, which will continue to appetise. It is a versatile wine which matches fish, with or without a sauce; chicken similarly; oriental food, and if you prefer a white wine with your pizza instead of a red one, then this wine copes with stronger flavours due to its' balance of abundant fruitiness and dryness. A versatile and finely crafted wine I always keep in stock, being of excellent value."
Mr J Leighton Davies (23-Nov-2009)
"Neither my wife nor I are expert tasters of wine. All we can say about Verdicchio is that we really like it and find it essentially Italian and interestingly different from the Society's French Dry and Vin Pay de Gascoyne which are our other two staple affordable whites we drink before or during supper several nights a week. I am sure you will have much more discerning comments coming in from other members. I am sorry we cannot be of more help. We much appreciate the service you provide."
Mr A Peter Cox (21-Nov-2009)
"A classy wine which goes well with food, but is also very drinkable on its own. Quite dry, with lots of subtle flavours."
Mr Philip C Gallaway (18-Nov-2009)
"A consistently good quality, value for money wine. Drinks well both as an aperitif and as an accompaniment to food. Very much a wine for all seasons."
Michael A Sweet Esq (17-Nov-2009)
"Light and fresh, yet tasty. I do recommend this wine."
Dr Gabrielle Stanley (16-Nov-2009)
"As an aperitif this wine is too sharp, but when it accompanies food it changes greatly. Food seems to bring out its herby, slightly lemony and scented qualities. It just about passed muster, but I am not sure if I would order it again.
"
Mrs Imogen Coldstream (14-Nov-2009)
"I love this wine, bone dry and classic Italian. If you like any slight sweetness avoid as it will not be for you. I have never found any background bitterness as you sometimes can with this, from other makers. I think Italian wines are currently very good value for money."
Mr John R Howson (13-Nov-2009)
"Not for me. Bought a case, tried two bottles but returned the rest."
Mr Robert Johnson (13-Nov-2009)
"Great value. Possibly the best everyday white wine value anywhere."
Mr William D Barr (13-Nov-2009)
"The Society’s Verdicchio is a refreshing, clean tasting white. Dry but not too light, this wine is excellent all year round as an aperitif and has sufficient fruit to accompany light meals and salads, some fish (especially if served hot with a light sauce) and is perfect for a summer party. We like never to be without a few bottles of this favourite budget priced white in our cellar."
Mr Peter H Blockley (12-Nov-2009)
"A good standby as an aperitif or with fish dishes. It is especially good with Smoked Haddock Florentine, adding its own nutty, slightly salty flavour to those of the fish, spinach and poached egg. The wine does not ask too much of the nose and palate, but, at the price, it represents good value and provides a pleasant drinking experience. I must enjoy it because I seem to have been buying it since the days when the Society used to sell it in the distinctively shaped bottles known to Italians as 'La Lollobrigida'."
Mr Michael J Wells (12-Nov-2009)
"I regret to say that I must have had a duff case of the Society's Verdicchio. 8 out of the 12 bottles were undrinkable. The Society very kindly refunded the cost of 1 bottle but I did not get round to complaining about the others. The wine tasted very heavily of sulphite or some similar chemical. This has rather put me off this wine and it will be some while before I try it again."
Mr William G Madewell (12-Nov-2009)
"This is a well-priced wine for regular quaffing as an aperitif, on those rare days when there is sunshine in the Autumn, or when we want a 'lift' from more serious wines. Not that this isn't serious - it is an alternative, lighter choice. Excellent with sea bass and most other white fish but also perfect on its own."
Mr Terence D Farebrother (12-Nov-2009)
"This is a thoroughly dry but flavoursome wine from Italy's Marque area. (Jesi). It is eminently suitable as an aperitif but has sufficient body and flavour to complement a wide range of not too heavy food. At circa £83 per dozen, it represents very good value for money. It has gained only praise at my dinner table."
William W Brodie Esq (11-Nov-2009)
"A clean, dry, refreshing wine with a pleasant lingering flavour. Always consistent, always excellent value for money."
Dr Gordon Lewis (11-Nov-2009)
"This is a very good example of an excellent value for money dry white."
Mr Derek C Andrews (11-Nov-2009)

Chichester Observer (7th Mar 2013)
"A product of one of Italy's top dry white wine grapes, and displays lots of distinctive character and dry fruitiness which shines through, because the wine is unoaked. A nice aperitif, or to accompany roast chicken, or Chinese dishes. It comes from a single vineyard, in Costa del Molino, near the Adriatic coast. - Peter Homer"
The Wine Gang (Mar 2013)
"Archetypal Adriatic dry white made from a single vineyard of Verdicchio at the Monte Schiavo winery. Dry, unoaked, rounded and effortlessly fresh, with delicate pear, banana and herb flavours and a twist of grapefruit on finish. No need to worry that the traditional amphora-shaped bottle looks slightly naff – this is in a Burgundy bottle. Goes with: Fish & Seafood, Salads & Vegetable dishes, Aperitif wine."
simonwoods.com (11th Feb 2013)
"Combines rounded creamy/nutty flavours, with leaner citrussy acidity, and adds in a fresh soft apple character too."
