"Sweet-ish and punchy on the alcohol level, but very smooth and with great aroma"

"{This] rich and dry
[wine] needs food, but fans of fusion could do worse than a case of these

"Tried again recently and enjoyed much more, finding it rounded and focused as I'd hoped when buying."

"I am a new member: Joined September 2017.
Although I have drunk wine since being an adult, I have often wondered what the fuss was about!
Yes I am an novice.
HOWEVER
The service provided by The Wine Society has been excellent.
So far I have opened half bottle of white Pinot Gris, Classic, Famille Hugel 2015.
The description provided by the Society is accurate:A full-flavoured, rich dry white with hints of the smokiness characteristic of this grape, essentially dry but with depth, weight and length on the palate.
The taste was as though I had never drunk wine before,
My plan of campaign is to share with my family and slowly drink through my present order, mainly French reds that I know, and some wines from Alsace.

"I thought this was more than ok. It isn't the classic dry alsace but it has a depth, roundness and spice which is very attractive. Suck through your teeth and there is a remarkably enhanced flavour (choose your company!). Excellent with salmon but would be just fine with pork"
Mr Steven Bush (07-Jun-2017)
"Oh dear. I previously had halves of the Hugel Pinot Gris Tradition (2012 and 2013) which I found commendably focused, rounded and crisp. Hugel have discontinued that wine and replaced it with Classic (and the Wine Society rates it 3/9 dry rich compared with 1/9 bone dry for the Tradition). The present Classic is perfectly drinkable but somehow seems unfinished and unfocused and reminds me of barrel samples I have had. This note is from the first of six bottles and I'll report again if subsequent experience is better."

"The trouble with this grape is that it is neither one thing nor the other: do you want a dry white wine or something else and if so what? But this is an agreeable though not remarkable half bottle and on balance I recommend it with only slight reservations."

"This demi-sec style is a good choice for people who don't like anything too sweet. Pinot Gris makes full-bodied wines bursting with stone fruit aromas and sweet spice flavours, and Hugel is one of Alsace's best-loved names. - Richard Hemming MW"
