Robin McMillan to step down as Chief Executive of The Wine Society
*Press release: 14th February 2018*
After almost six years as CEO, Robin McMillan has taken the decision to leave The Wine Society at the end of February 2018.
In often challenging economic conditions, turnover at The Society has grown by 45% under his leadership and active membership has grown by over 25,000, now standing at 140,000.
‘I am proud to have led this sustained growth of the business and the significant investments that have been made to deliver the best possible services for our members,’ said McMillan.
The Society has a huge reputation in the industry and in six out of the last seven years it has been voted Outstanding Wine Retailer at the annual Decanter Retailer Awards.
As CEO, McMillan has championed the development of people within the business and was instrumental in the introduction of the Employee Engagement, Executive Management and Manager/Specialist Development programmes.
McMillan has overseen the new digital strategy which has been a significant investment for The Society and has delivered much-needed exciting new functionality and content on the website, resulting in increased member satisfaction and sustained growth.
The last 18 months have seen a focus on modernising The Society’s communication with members, innovations in a new web-based ‘Community’ for Society members and important work on its ‘brand personality’, all of which set the business up well for the future.
Sarah Evans, The Society’s Chairman said: ‘Robin leaves The Wine Society in a healthy and positive position as a business and within our competitive market. On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank him for all his work over the last six years and join with Society members and staff in wishing him well for the future.’
Robin’s interim replacement at The Society from 1st March 2018 will be Liz Cerroti, head of Member Experience on The Society’s Executive Team.
