Château La Serre, Saint-Emilion 2019
Red Wine from France - Bordeaux
This small property (just seven hectares) sits on the limestone plateau just a stones throw away from the town of Saint-Emilion rightfully earns its name 'the greenhouse' thanks to its south-facing aspect and rich, full-bodied and powerful wines. This 2019 is everything I look for in a high-quality right-bank wine with a powerful nose of damsons, cherries and plenty of new oak cedar notes, with a rich, velvety palate and supple tannins. Gorgeous in youth we're sure this will age well.

Château La Serre
La Serre, owned by the d’Arfeuille family for over 60 years, is a charming property next to Trotte Vieille on the limestone plateau to the east of the town of Saint-Emilion. It consists of just seven hectares, planted 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, with the vines averaging 35 years of age. The history of the property dates back to the 15th century, but it was at the end of the 17th century that Romain de Labaym, Sieur de La Serre, built the château and gave it his name. Luc d’Arfeuille restored it at the end of the 1970s, and initiated the improvements that are clear to see today. Recent vintages have shown that this is a fine property very much on form. La Serre means ‘greenhouse’: a nod to the estate’s southerly exposure which means the vineyard sees sunshine all day long.
