2026 - 2027

Pinot Grigio delle Venezie, Castel Pietra 2025

From grapes grown in the highest portion of vineyards in the delle Venezie appellation, this pinot grigio benefits from sunny days but cool nights, brightening both the aromatics and the acidity. Dry and refreshing with flavours of ripe green apples and conference pears and a chalky minerality, this is a well-balanced, easy-drinking anyday white.

Italy £8.50 per bottle
2026 - 2027

Orvieto Classico Superiore Castagnolo, Barberani 2025

Niccolò Barberani puts heart and soul into this brilliant blend, which has deservedly become the most popular of a very high-grade range of wines he makes, with its appealing citrus aroma and fresh, appetising, mineral-edged palate. The Barberani family's efforts at farming sustainably mean that we are delighted to name them Wine Society Pioneers. Certified organic in the 1980s they were innovative in developing their low energy winery in which 95% of the light used is natural diffused sunlight from Aliant roofing technology. Solar panels supplement it, making the winery 100% self-sufficient in energy. 45 of their 100 hectares are given over to managed forest that sequesters about 240 tonnes of CO2 every year, while widely planted flowers further encourage insect biodiversity, including the joyful appearance of fireflies at night, an indicator of air purity! Local springs and Lake Corbara supply irrigation water. They use only local yeasts, very little sulphur in the winemaking (much below the organic allowance) and use no additives. As they say, ‘if you have healthy grapes, you don’t need chemicals in the wine’.

Italy £12.50 per bottle
2025 - 2027

The Society's Verdicchio Classico 2025

One of Italy's best buys, verdicchio makes vibrant, crisp and refreshing wines. This is from a beautiful and organic single vineyard and has a full, dry style, with grapefruit, lemon and mineral notes that slip down easily with or without food.

Italy £9.50 per bottle
2026 - 2027

Nerofino Rosso Vigneti delle Dolomiti, Castel Firmian 2022

This wine is a union between the most important red grape varieties of Trentino, Teroldego (50%) and lagrein (50%). Teroldego is best grown in the Piana Rotaliana, which gives all the elements for rich, well-structured wine. Lagrein is grown along the hills above the Adige river, where rocky well-drained soil gives a fragrant and juicy wine with a delicate structure which balances the teroldego tannins. After fermentation half the wine is aged for six months in three-year-old, lightly toasted French oak barrels which allow the wine to develop without dominating oak flavours

Italy £10.95 per bottle
2025 - 2027

The Society's Sicilian Reserve Red 2022

Our members love this bold yet balanced nero d'Avola, and its winning performance in our 2026 Wine Champions tastings showed why. ‘Soft, full and ripe’ with ‘plump black fruit and a hint of coffee’, it performs a brilliant balancing act between fruity generosity and oak-influenced spice and structure. Brilliant value.

Italy £9.95 per bottle
2025 - 2028

The Society's Chianti Rùfina 2022

Keep an eye out for more Rùfina Chianti's as this cooler subregion is proving a great bet with warming summers. Great-value and made exclusively for us by the Grati family, it has a cherry and leather scent, with a medium-body, and more red berry, dry leaves, and balsamic character on the palate. It's a marvellous choice to match with a beautifully baked pizza, from four seasons to four cheese.

Italy £11.50 per bottle
2025 - 2027

Salice Salentino Riserva, Vallone 2022

These old, bush-trained negroamaro vines on Vallone's San Pancrazio vineyard in Italy's heel produce intensely flavoured grapes. This Riserva has had time in large old oak to soften and has generous blackcurrant fruit and a full-bodied palate.

Italy £10.50 per bottle
2025 - 2030

Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, Contesa 2025

This brightly coloured, beautifully delicate dry rosato from the east of Italy has lovely redcurrant and cranberry flavours with a little spice on the finish.

Italy £9.95 per bottle
2026 - 2027

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore, Tenute Pieralisi 2025

Verdicchio is one of Italy's finest white grape varieties, and this example from the Le Marche region has great precision and tension with green-apple, grapefruit and saline notes that hold well on the upliftingly zesty finish. Perfect for any catch of the day, enlivened with herby marinades.

Italy £11.50 per bottle
2026 - 2027

Grillo, Sicilia, Feudo Arancio 2025

Easy-going sunny Sicilian grillo showing apricot and pink-grapefruit notes with a touch of saltiness on the refreshing finish, unsurprising for vines growing so close to the sea. This is a great match to Sicilian roasted vegetables. It comes from a region with serious water problems, and the forward-thinking cooperative behind the wine has taken great strides to reduce water usage through, for example, the use of drip irrigation.

Italy £8.95 per bottle
2026 - 2027

Feudo Arancio Nero d'Avola, Sicilia 2024

The 2024 offers a bright, fruit-forward expression, with ripe strawberry and blackberry at its core and a soft, succulent texture. Medium-bodied and well balanced, it is as enjoyable on its own as at the table. The Nero d’Avola is grown on an estate committed to biodiversity, preserving native flora, including rare orchids, while restoring former quarry land with citrus groves alongside olives and prickly pear.

Italy £9.25 per bottle
2025 - 2027

Teroldego Rotaliano Castel Firmian Mezzacorona 2022

These teroldego vines are from beautifully trellised vineyards in the foothills of the Dolomites, where fresh, cleansing breezes and cool nights capture the fruit aromas beautifully. This has had some time in large oak barrels, softening the tannins and concentrating the tart blackberry, cherry and vanilla flavours.
