South Africa's Vulpes Wines is the exciting new venture from Nuschka de Vos, a young, talented winemaker sourcing electrifying small-volume chenin blanc from some outstanding sites. The second vintage of Velox confirms our view that this is a star in the making, and after the debut vintage sold out in a flash, we are delighted that Nuschka was able to produce a little more in 2024. From a single, very sandy block in the Citrusdal mountains, not far from the famous Skurfberg site introduced to Nuschka by viticulturist Rosa Kruger, just as Eben Sadie was introduced to Skurfberg. Velox is immediately expressive even in its youth, displaying a wild-herb-like perfume of lemongrass and pine, and real depth of flavour, with conference pear and quince fruit on the palate. A textured yet also racy chenin, with earthy minerality and remarkable length. A UK exclusive to The Wine Society.
