Yalumba 'The Caley' Coonawarra & Barossa Cabernet Shiraz 2018
Red Wine from Australia - South Australia
The 2018 release of The Caley is a remarkable fine wine but that's no surprise given the stellar vintage and the pedigree of Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family-owned winery. This cabernet sauvignon and shiraz blend continues the legacy of The Caley as Yalumba’s flagship red, crafted from exceptional sites in Coonawarra and the Barossa Valley. The 2018 vintage was marked by a long, balmy summer in the Barossa and ideal ripening conditions in Coonawarra, delivering fruit with clarity, structure and depth. In the glass, it shows a deep, dense red hue. The nose is expressive and fragrant, with blackcurrant and dark cherry joined by cool iodine, savoury herbs and leafy complexity, all hallmarks of Coonawarra cabernet. Shiraz brings plushness and generosity to the palate, which is medium to full-bodied and densely structured. Silky, prominent tannins and finely layered fruit make for a wine of presence and poise. Drinking beautifully now (ideally with a good hour's decant), this is built for the long haul and will reward cellaring for many more years to come.
