The Rhône: Deal Vs Ideal

Sometimes those extra-special occasions call for a bottle of something luxurious, but it’s not always possible to splurge (no matter how much we might want to!). Fear not – we've come up with some excellent alternatives that won’t leave you disappointed. But if a certain bottle really catches your eye or you've got a celebration coming up, we have you covered for those moments, too.

Northern Rhône Syrah

Julien Cécillon’s syrah is full of pepper, violets and spice, offering all you’d expect from a northern Rhône syrah.

Rostaing’s Côte-Rôtie is from one of the most sought-after parcels in this famous appellation. Expect precision, minerality and concentration with some development, but with the potential to age for decades to come.

Crozes

The Society Crozes-Hermitage is a 2025 Wine Champion, sourced from northern Rhône talent Nicolas Jaboulet from some great parcels.

Fayolle’s Clos Les Cornirets comes from the same granitic soil type as Les Bessards on the Hermitage hill, from low-yielding old vines, producing a mineral, ageworthy and structured syrah.

Southern Rhône White

Old vines farmed organically and biodynamically in the heart of the Cairanne cru, delivering a textured and fresh white.

A concentrated white blend with texture, and a minerality and complexity that you get from great vineyard sites such as this.

Southern Rhône Red

Just across the river from Châteauneuf, Lirac offers a less powerful alternative to its famous neighbour. This grenache, syrah and mourvèdre blend from 35+ year-old vines offers great substance and value.

This young brother-and-sister duo are making a name for themselves in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. They’ve produced a charming, complex and generous 2023 red that’s enticing, and has plenty of time to develop in the bottle.

Cornas

From a star Cornas grower that uses fruit from a few parcels and some younger vine fruit to produce a lively red-berry-fruited red that has some spice and cassis notes.

Hermitage

Made from 100% marsanne from a single plot that is a stone’s throw from Hermitage, this is everything you want from a northern Rhône white.

Chante-Alouette comes from some of the best parcels on the Hermitage hill, including Le Meal, Les Murets and Chante-Alouette. Always generous and concentrated with great depth of flavour and length.
