We are delighted to announce that, at a ceremony at London’s Hurlingham Club, The Wine Society was presented with no fewer than five International Wine Challenge merchant awards, namely:

- Buying Team of the Year
- Specialist Merchant Awards for Austria, Regional France and Portugal

While we are no stranger to four of the awards, the most pleasing award this year is that of Buying Team of the Year, a new category at the IWC.
We have always felt that we have the best team in the business, but to have this officially recognised is very special. Our eight buyers – Pierre, Marcel, Toby, Jo, Tim, Sarah, Freddy and Matthew – are much admired and envied in the trade because, thanks to our business model, they can buy solely on quality. They are not driven by price, but rather by taste and by fairness, both to you, the drinker, and to the winemaker. Relationships are so important to us, and this award is testament to the great relationships built over years and often decades with our suppliers.
The Wine Society stick to a proven model which continues delivering for its members. No huge artificial discount or fancy promise but plentiful and qualitative information as well as innovative virtual events to replace their hugely successful pre-Covid in-person events.The IWC judging panel
We continue to win awards in specialist areas, and we’ve been recognised yet again in Austria, Portugal and Regional France. Hats off to Freddy, Jo, Tim and Marcel who buy for these countries and regions.
It is always a thrill and an honour to receive these awards from a panel of industry experts, reflecting the support that you, our members, give to your Society. Our whole purpose is to get the best wines at the best prices to you, and while your purchases, views and feedback are most important to us, to have such third-party endorsement is heartening.
