Society & Exhibition: the stories behind the bottles

The Society and Exhibition ranges are, we believe, the best own-label wines in the UK. Today we’re giving you the inside track on just 12 of these much-loved exclusives.

12 wines hero
Unsurprisingly the non-profit Wine Society has a cracking own label collection.
Jane MacQuitty, The Times

We are immensely proud of these wines. From the pure pleasure, enjoyment and value of the benchmark bottles in our Society range to the more site-specific flagship Exhibition wines, they are bottled perks of your membership.

They’re sourced from some of the most talented and sought-after names in wine, with whom our buyers work directly to source, and often blend, these gems for you. Our not-for-profit model gives them the freedom to lavish all the care and attention these wines need, then make them available to you at incredible prices for their quality.

Here we focus on just 12 of them and tell their stories. From wines held back for years until they’re drinking perfectly to the results of no fewer than five different blending sessions to ensure the wine meets our (and your) exacting standards, we celebrate and share the stories of the special bottles we put our name to.

Six Society stories

We know of no better-value way to explore the world of wine. Covering key regions and styles alongside lesser-known discoveries, every Society-label wine is a delicious, classic example of its type.

The Society’s French Chardonnay 2025

The art of the blend. When the more flexible Vin de France category was introduced, allowing wines from different French regions to be blended, we recognised there was an opportunity to come up with some fantastic-value wines for members. This chardonnay is one of them. We worked with Les Vins Aujoux, utilising the body of warm southern fruit and the freshness of grapes in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It’s a joint effort combining the knowledge and experience of both parties and results in making the best wine we can, and further enhances our relationship and mutual respect.

The Society’s White Rioja 2024

Five generations of expertise, one outstanding-value white. One of the most distinctive own-label white wines in our range, this is made exclusively for us by fifth-generation winemaker Raúl Acha, of leading modern winery Bodegas Hacienda López de Haro. Few can match his local knowledge, and we work with him to showcase the more classically styled white Rioja. The result is a wine that delivers far more than its price might suggest.

The Society’s Beaujolais-Villages 2023

Capturing the essence of a region. For more than 50 years, Les Vins Aujoux have been the source of our Society-label Beaujolais. This is a négoce, buying wines from local growers, and our long and trusted relationship allows us to pick and choose, often blending together from different estates to make a wine that best reflects the fruity joy of Beaujolais through the lens of that particular vintage.

The Society’s Malbec 2025

A mutual understanding forged over more than 25 vintages. We’ve been blending this malbec with the legendary Susana Balbo, one of Argentina’s leading winemakers, since 1999. This relationship has established a strong understanding of what this wine should be and gives us access to ‘grand cru’ fruit, giving members a cut-above malbec at a superb price.

The Society’s Australian Shiraz 2025

How a benchmark Aussie from a lesser-known region unlocks value. We work with the historic Bleasdale winery to produce this shiraz, drawing from fruit in Langhorne Creek. It’s one of South Australia’s stalwart, yet perhaps lesser-known wine regions, producing classically styled, high-quality shiraz at remarkably attractive prices: the perfect source for a Society wine.

The Society’s Douro Red 2024

A suggestion from a South African superstar… in Portugal! The idea for this wine came from South African winemaking star Marc Kent at his exciting Vinhos Invincible venture with local star winemaker Rita Marques. Buyer Freddy Bulmer was impressed by the wines and keen to build on our relationship, so we found a way to make it happen. The Douro is already familiar to many for its Ports, but its red table wines deserve just as much attention. This wine It is gives you an authentic taste of the region, via one of the most talented winemaking teams working in Portugal today, and offers fantastic value.

Exhibition A-listers

The Exhibition range dives deeper into the world of fine wine, majoring in on more specific sites and regions via our relationships with some of the planet’s top estates. These are standard-bearing wines offered at remarkable prices for their quality.

The Society’s Exhibition English Sparkling Wine NV

A 20+ year relationship and a remarkable price. We’re lucky to have been working with Ridgeview for such a long period, and their business model, as well as the volumes we commit to, means we’ve managed to keep this delicious English fizz at a brilliant price for over a decade.

The Society’s Exhibition Chablis 2025

Fifth time’s a charm! It took no fewer than five blends to get to our final wine for this 2025 Chablis. It comes from one of the region’s brightest lights, Jean-Marc Brocard, whose holistic approach is truly inspiring. In a region which is, in his son Julien’s words, a monoculture, Brocard are committed to changing that and are leading from the front. The Brocards have led the charge to farming more sustainably in Chablis – read more about their inspirational work in this article by Tamlyn Currin.

The Society’s Exhibition Kamptal Grüner Veltliner 2025

Why it pays to be ahead of the curve. Throughout our history, Society buyers have often recognised emerging regions long before the wider market. This is a perfect example. We’ve worked with the pioneering Bründlmayer winery on this exclusive wine for more than 20 years, long before Austrian wine enjoyed the recognition it does today, and members get it at a fraction of the price of many wines of comparable quality.

The Society’s Exhibition Pinotage, Stellenbosch 2022

The masters of the grape and the rewards of patience. This South African exclusive comes from a Stellenbosch ‘first growth’, Kanonkop, whose mastery of pinotage – South Africa’s own red grape – made them a natural choice. The style repays some keeping, so we deliberately hold this back in their cellars and we ship and release it when it’s starting to mature. The 2022 vintage is absolutely delicious right now.

The Society’s Exhibition Chianti Classico 2024

A new find from one of Chianti’s oldest and best. This recent addition is from the Ricasoli family at Castello di Brolio, who have been making wine here since the 12th century. We were able to select our own blend, exclusively for members, and we’re absolutely thrilled with the result!

The Society’s Exhibition Gigondas 2019

Access to top fruit, then aged until perfectly ready. Château Saint Cosme’s Louis Barruol is one of Gigondas’ best-known winemakers, instrumental in putting this part of the Rhône on the map. Our longstanding relationship means we get access to some of the most interesting vineyard sites in Gigondas, creating this exclusive blend with him. We keep hold of it and only release it when it’s ready to drink.
