A striking, finely sculpted white Rioja, Arriscado is mineral, faintly reductive and savoury, with lots of lemon, lime and grapefruit framed by a taut, linear structure. The only white wine made by Eduardo, it comes from El Llano, a north-facing vineyard at the end of the valley, close to the river, where colluvial limestone soils with exceptionally high calcium content impart precision, balance and distinct mineral character. Planted in 1948 as a traditional field blend, the vineyard is predominantly viura, complemented by small proportions of garnacha Blanca, torrontés, doña blanca, malvasía and calagraño. Whole-bunch maceration, gentle pressing and fermentation in French oak vats and 500-litre foudres are handled with characteristic restraint, preserving the wine's crystalline freshness and fine-boned elegance. Less overtly saline than previous years, the vintage offers more hay and chamomile with bright acidity, tension and power brewing beneath. A compelling, architectural expression of fine white Rioja.
