Cuentaviñas Tinto Fino, Ribera del Duero 2025

Code: SP25941
Red
With all his experience making the Sierra Cantabria Toro wines at Teso La Monja, Eduardo’s love and curiosity of tempranillo drew him to Ribera del Duero, where he now rents some vineyards from five different villages high up in the Burgos sub-region, all of which sit over 800 metres above sea level on sandy soils, and all of which are more than 80 years old. These fresh sites benefit from cold winters that keep the vineyards dormant for longer, which contributes to aromatic preservation of the wine. Now in his sixth vintage, Eduardo has mastered an elegant expression of Ribera del Duero. While oak plays a more prominent role than in his Riojas, it is beautifully integrated into a sophisticated style, with chalky, sweet tannins, moderate alcohol, and wonderfully perfumed fruit, offering far more fragrance and finesse than the region is typically known for. Drink from 2028 to 2038. 13.5%

2021 Cuentaviñas Alomado, Rioja 2025

Code: SP25951
Red
Alomado was one of Eduardo Eguren’s first wines, named after its position on the back of the Ebro River. The fruit comes from a single vineyard in Sonsierra, where Eduardo seeks to capture one of the most Atlantic expressions of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The site sits on gravelly soils shaped by the river, with limestone and unusual red and black pebbles carried from elsewhere by the Ebro, which all add to the structure and mineral character to the wine. Made mostly from tempranillo with around 20% co-planted white varieties, Alomado is Rioja with energy and precision. The 2025 vintage is dark and vivid, with black cherry, forest fruits and wild herbs alongside notes of orange peel and a subtle mountain freshness. The tannins are more pronounced this year, giving the wine greater grip and structure, while its exceptional acidity provides remarkable tension and length. Aged in barrel for around 14–15 months, with a small proportion of new oak, the wine is shaped with restraint to preserve the character of the vineyard. A powerful yet refined expression of Sonsierra, Alomado shows both immediate vibrancy and clear ageing potential. Drink from 2028 to 2043. 13.5%

Cuentaviñas CDVN Garnacha, Rioja 2025

Code: SP25931
Red
A stunning wine born out of friendship. Eduardo Eguren, one of the most exciting new names in Rioja, created CDVN garnacha in 2019 after reconnecting with the Benés family at Bodegas Valcuerna in the mountainous Cordovín, home to the highest concentrations of century-old garnacha vines in the region. He was so taken with their old-vines, that the family let him bottle a wine from it, and even got a few winemaker friends involved in the project too. The vineyard lies in the Alto Najerilla, where the landscape and soils are a world apart from the Ebro Valley. Here, the soils are distinctive red, iron-rich clay soils, retaining water well, helping the old, massale selected vines thrive. Eduardo’s all about expressing site, so chose here to avoid whole bunch, and pick the fruit early to retain freshness and soil expression. The result is a garnacha with lift and purity: bright, sappy redcurrant and raspberry fruit, fragrant notes of lavender, thyme and wild herbs, and ripe, fine-grained tannins. It is rounded and generous yet poised and elegant, a transparent expression of place and a brilliant example of the new face of Rioja. Drink from 2028 to 2037. 13.5%

Cuentaviñas Los Yelsones, Rioja 2025

Code: SP25921
Red
The most ethereal of Eduardo Eguren’s range, and the wine that made him start the Cuentaviñas project, Yelsones is situated in La Raz, a very high altitude plot in the Peciña hamlet of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The fresh, electrics of this remarkable Rioja can be attributed to the limestone-rich soil, scattered with blocks of calcium carbonate known locally as “yelsones”, which give the wine both its name and its vibrant mineral profile. Just two barrels are produced each year, the 18 months of French oak bringing subtle spice and texture. Dark-fruited yet weightless, Yelsones combines red cherry and wild dark forest fruit with hints of Mediterranean forest. Fine, chalky tannins and a piercing mineral backbone carry the wine across the palate with extraordinary precision. It is defined by its remarkable energy, bright, vibrant and seemingly weightless, with an intensity that lights up the palate. Drink from 2028 to 2038. 13%

Cuentaviñas Arriscado Blanco, Rioja 2025

Code: SP25961
White
A striking, finely sculpted white Rioja, Arriscado is mineral, faintly reductive and savoury, with lots of lemon, lime and grapefruit framed by a taut, linear structure. The only white wine made by Eduardo, it comes from El Llano, a north-facing vineyard at the end of the valley, close to the river, where colluvial limestone soils with exceptionally high calcium content impart precision, balance and distinct mineral character. Planted in 1948 as a traditional field blend, the vineyard is predominantly viura, complemented by small proportions of garnacha Blanca, torrontés, doña blanca, malvasía and calagraño. Whole-bunch maceration, gentle pressing and fermentation in French oak vats and 500-litre foudres are handled with characteristic restraint, preserving the wine's crystalline freshness and fine-boned elegance. Less overtly saline than previous years, the vintage offers more hay and chamomile with bright acidity, tension and power brewing beneath. A compelling, architectural expression of fine white Rioja. Drink from 2028 to 2035. 12.5%

Cuentaviñas El Tiznado Rioja 2025

Code: SP25911
Red
El Tiznado might one of Spain’s greatest Rioja wines, and certainly the jewel in the crown of Eduardo’s remarkable line-up. From a single, south-west-facing plot planted in 1923 at 500 metres altitude, this astonishing tempranillo is the product of closely spaced, genetically diverse vines selected through traditional 'massale' methods. The name El Tiznado, meaning 'the stained one', refers to the vineyard’s striking red soils, rich in ferric oxide. These shallow, sandy soils, formed from the weathering of calcareous sandstone shape the wine profoundly. The poor, mineral-rich earth produces a deeper, darker fruit profile, with much riper fruit than Yelsones, and a subtle earthy, ferrous taste. Notes of black cherry, black olive, stewed tea can be found beneath the fine silky tannins. A wine of depth, precision and timeless beauty. Drink from 2028 to 2038. 14%
