A Fistful of Schist Shiraz, Swartland 2025

Red Wine from South Africa - Coastal Region
3.800000000 star rating 5 Reviews
Historically we've offered this wine as a blend alongside cinsault and mourvèdre but in 2025, a vintage that's being called 'the best of a generation', the shiraz was so good we wanted to showcase it on its own. Produced by the ever impressive Riebeek Cellars in the Swartland from vines across the region this is rich, spicy and generously textured shiraz with a core of spiced bramble and blackberry, with hints of pepper, five spice and smoke.

Such a delightful, bright Syrah, particularly with this price tag. Beautiful mineral, slightly flinty nose giving a fresh, precise outline to the crunchy plum and blackberry fruit. The tannins are firm yet so refreshing. Such a brilliant everyday drinker, best enjoyed slightly chilled.

Bright crimson. Ripe, correct warm-climate Syrah. Much more personality than many a wine at this price. Good value. JancisRobinson.com
