Château Cissac, Haut-Médoc 2018
As a 2025 Wine Champion, this 2018 claret was judged to be ‘in a really good place’, showing ‘a really pure texture,’ ‘beautiful cedary maturity’ and a ‘really long’ finish. ‘A bargain at under £20’, it’s a harmonious, attractive, vibrant and complex endorsement for the value Bordeaux can offer. ‘Drink that with steak,’ said one taster, ‘it’ll be lovely’.
Olivier Leflaive, Bourgogne Oncle Vincent 2023
This impressive wine, a superior Les Sétilles, is made from older vineyards predominantly owned by Olivier Leflaive classed as Bourgogne, situated below those of Puligny. 100% barrel fermented, with 15% new oak.
Château de Beauregard, Saint-Véran En Faux 2023
From the top of the slope at Chasselas, a sunny vineyard producing wines with ripe red-peach flavours and aromas. 75% is fermented in barrels with 25% in tank to maintain some freshness. En Faux is near the Mont de Pouilly at about 400m, where it is quite cool, but much sunnier than Vernay, with a south-westerly orientation. It ripens well but keeps some freshness to counterbalance the maturity.
Château Fourcas-Borie, Listrac 2016
From a fine property owned by Bruno Borie of Ducru Beaucaillou from the outstanding 2016 vintage this is at the perfect point of maturity, balancing the power and dark-fruit from this warm vintage with the savoury spice and cigar notes form maturation. A blend of 68% merlot, 21% cabernet sauvignon, and 11% petit verdot with 12 months in oak of which 20% was new this is the perfect accompaniment to your Autumnal recipes. Still showing plenty of colour and depth we'd recommend decanting for an hour before drinking to really show this classy Listrac at its best.
Jean-Marc Brocard, Chablis Vignobles Sainte Claire Vieilles Vignes 2024
Made from vines planted in the Malantes vineyard, this is a wonderful pure, crystalline Chablis which would embarrass many a premier cru. The wonderful Malantes vineyard is situated on a hillside that runs roughly parallel to that on which sits Montmains. While Montmains is a premier cru Malantes, which has a similar exposition but perhaps turns a little more to the east, whereas Montmains is south-east, is just classed as village Chablis. This makes the Malantes vineyard a very superior source of village Chablis.
Jean-Pierre Moueix, Saint-Emilion 2022
A plush and succulent merlot-based claret with polished, dark-fruit character and a long, satisfying finish. Classic Saint-Emilion from right-bank Bordeaux specialists JP Moueix.
