Cap au Sud Vin de France, Domaine La Grapp' A 2024
Domaine La Grapp’A is an exciting and dynamic estate that was set up by a young couple who started the project from the 2021 vintage. Aurelie Parla and Julien Maublanc have only seven hectares and are based just outside of Arbois. Previously Julien’s family sold the grapes to the local co-operative, and although they worked organically for over 15 years, Julien’s philosophy is different. They are moving to biodynamics and are passionate about agroforestry, having livestock on the farm as well as developing oeno-tourism, with a yurt on site, and planting truffle trees. This is a wonderfully quirky wine that truly reflects the dynamic nature of this couple. Due to frost and rain in 2024, yields were down 60 to 70% and Aurelie said they had 'lots of time to walk' and came across some amazing vineyards near Beaumes de Venise in the south of France. This is a blend of those southern grapes of grenache, clairette and carignan with poulsard, pinot noir, chardonnay, savagnin and trousseau. It has produced a wine that is wonderfully aromatic and spicy.
