Red Wine from France - Loire
A delightful expression of Loire cabernet franc to serve on the cooler side, pure and light on nose and palate, with succulent red fruit and smooth finish. The warm 2025 vintage has given extra concentration and richness to this otherwise easy-drinking red. It's a great example of modern Chinon. At Domaine de la Noblaie, Jérôme Billard has been farming organically for more than 20 years, long before it became fashionable. After studying chemistry, he became uneasy about the routine use of synthetic chemicals and chose a different path: focus on the soil and let the wine follow. Today the vineyards are buzzing with life. Sheep graze the cover crops through winter, wildflowers and native plants grow between the vines, bees and birds help keep the ecosystem in balance, and the estate is surrounded by extensive forest. Compost made from sheep manure and plant waste helps rebuild topsoil year after year. In the cellar, gravity does much of the work, while packaging is kept simple with no capsules and recycled cases. It's a thoughtful, practical approach that allows this charming Chinon to speak clearly of where it comes from.

Jérôme Billard (Domaine de la Noblaie)
Jérôme Billard is a young grower who has taken over the reins of the family business in recent years. His grandparents bought the property for their retirement having migrated from the Corrèze department, and Jérôme’s father was professor of oenology at the agricultural college in Montreuil-Bellay. Jérôme trained with Moueix in Bordeaux and California, and later in New Zealand, and returned to the domaine with a fresh outlook but a great respect for the integrity of Chinon’s grapes, working organically since 2008.
The family now farms 21 hectares, 16 of which they own, around the hamlet of Le Vau Breton, a name which in the time of 15th-century poet and trencherman Rabelais meant ‘The Valley of Cabernet Franc’. 17 hectares are planted with cabernet franc and 4 with chenin blanc, and Jérôme vinifies parcels separately and by the age of the vines to retain their particular characteristics.
