Grüner Veltliner, Winery Thaya 2025
Based in the Czech region of Moravia in the sub region of Znojmo that borders Austria and with similar loess and granite soils to the Kamptal, this is a crisp and fresh, unoaked grüner veltliner. Typical grüner notes of rocket and white pepper combine with ginger, citrus and white-blossom aromas. One hour north of Kamptal, it benefits from a more marginal climate than its neighbour. Wines from the region maintain great acidity and freshness, as well as relatively low alcohols. Thaya winery has won lots of awards, including their 31-year-old winemaker (Jakub Smroka) winning the Winegrowers Association Winemaker of the year in 2021. The winery's proximity to the Podyjí National Park as well as the River Thaya running through the region helps achieve freshness in the grapes and resulting wine.
