Smart, horizon-broadening sauvignon blanc from Austria that has quiet sophistication. Scented with citrus, meadow flowers and subtle gooseberry, it's light and fresh on the palate with gentle texture. A world away from tropical Marlborough or flinty Sancerre.

A ripe yet fresh balance of flavours and aromas and a fresh and fruity nose in the apple and melon spectrum leads to a creamy palate with a seam of underlying freshness. About 20% comes from the cooler Hautes Côtes vineyards for freshness, with the rest mainly from vineyards classified as Bourgogne situated on the land below Meursault and Puligny. About 65% is barrel-fermented and kept on its yeast lees for richness, while 35% is tank fermented to capture the freshness.

This is a delicious riesling which gains body and generosity from the warm sunny days in Central Otago but maintains an energetic freshness and structural acidity from the region's famously cold nights. This has become known as one of the region's great rieslings; highly age-worthy, thanks to the vibrant structural acidity, with notes of peaches, limes and lemons and a long complex finish. Prophet's Rock is one of the great small estates of Central Otago. It's hard to think of a better match for a sumptuous Chinese takeaway feast or a selection of Thai favourites than a riesling like this.
