Domaine Vacheron

Domaine Vacheron is a top-quality, longstanding family-owned estate and one of the few still to hold cellars in the actual town of Sancerre in the Loire. Cousins Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent run the estate and have been the driving force behind adopting organic farming in the vineyard (certified as such since 2008).

The soils here are equal parts limestone and flint; limestone contributes to balanced acidity in the grapes while flint helps provide attractive aromas and minerality. At around 40 hectares, this is one of the largest properties in Sancerre to hand-harvest all its fruit. The labour-intensive efforts in the vineyard ensure that the results in the winery are extremely reliable, even in difficult vintages.

Domaine Vacheron is known for expressive, fruit-driven wines that show the traditional Sancerre qualities of brightness and balance. As well as classic white Sancerre, the domaine is also famed for its reds with a sizeable proportion of the vineyard given over to pinot noir vines.
