Small Wonders Mixed Case
Wines included
Château de Beauregard, Saint-Véran Le Vernay 2024
Fine-flavoured unoaked Saint-Véran from a cool spot in Chasselas. Firm and tense with a fresh, taut palate. Kept on its lees in tank for 12 months. It is unoaked to preserve its minerality intact.
Pouilly-Fumé, Domaine Seguin 2024
Another benchmark Pouilly-Fumé from Domiane Seguin, blending fruit from all three of this Loire appellation's terroirs. It is mineral, balanced and fresh, and perfectly poised to partner salmon, smoked or poached.
Boekenhoutskloof ‘The Chocolate Block’, Swartland 2023
Pioneering and ever-popular South African syrah-based blend, admirable for its consistent quality. With flavours of ripe mulberry and strawberry, wild herbs, and a touch of peppery spice, this has supple tannins, and balances its inherent fruit richness with freshness. The blend in 2023, which was a cool, elegant vintage for the Swartland, is 74% syrah, 11% grenache, 8% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cinsault, and 1% viognier. This is a benchmark, crowd-pleasing Swartland red ready to drink now.
Fleurie, Clos de la Roilette 2024
From a vineyard bordering Moulin-à-Vent, this wine has the perfume of a Fleurie - fragrant with florals - and the body of a Moulin-à-Vent, albeit the 2024 is a lighter expression than the 2023. The soils here are an unusual mix of manganese and clay, yielding wines with more structure and power than many Fleuries on pink granite. Spicy and vibrant, this has the bite and crunch that is the signature of the 2024 vintage in Beaujolais, abundant ripe sweet raspberry fruit and a spicy flair. The domaine itself pre-dates the formation of the Fleurie appellation which is why the word Fleurie does not dominate the label and La Roilette is the name of the favourite racehorse of the previous owner of the farm.
Weinert Malbec Mendoza 2020
Mellow, mature and comforting Argentine malbec from a members’ favourite estate. Soft and rounded after three years in large old foudres, this has mature aromas of leather and cedar.
Timorasso Derthona, La Colombera 2024
Timorasso, a rare Piedmontese variety, shines in La Colombera’s Derthona. Citrus and pear, oyster-shell and fresh pastry aromas entice you to the crisp, linear palate of lemon, apple and mineral notes, savoury and subtly saline on the finish, with quiet depth and structure marking it out as a fine Timorasso with real ageing potential.
