South America New Finds

Lovely ripe yet fresh malbec from the cool Argentine region of Altamira. matured 50% in tank for freshness and 50% in barrel for richness. Made by Roberto de la Mota of Mendel.

Ripe and plummy merlot from vineyards at planted at Rosario,19km from the Pacific Ocean. Low yields of about 45hl/ha explain the concentrated flavour. matured in barrel for about a year.

From vineyards planted at Rosario, 19km from the Pacific Ocean, this is rich, dense and structured syrah with aromas of tar and black olives. 30 to 40% whole bunch fermentation contributes a hint of freshness.

Quimay wines are selected by The Wine Society and winemaker Alejandro Sejanovitch to demonstrate the exciting wines now being produced in the cool La Consulta region situated in the Uco Valley. This greengage scented semillon has a round yet fresh palate and good length of flavour.

Low yields of about 56hl/ha from the cool Valle Hermoso vineyard just 12km from the sea explain the impressive, concentrated flavour. Fermentation in 30% 700l concrete amphora and 30% in French oak barrels 228-400l contributes mid-palate weight, while 40% tank fermentation preserves the gooseberry and nettle aromas. Bright and fresh with nettle leaf and gooseberry flavours.

Bright, fresh, taut, lemony chardonnay made from high-altitude vines in the 1350m Aluvia single vineyard in the exciting Gualtallary region. 70% is from tank fermented wines for crispness while 30% is fermented in used barrels to add some mid-palate weight without masking the crystalline fruit character.
