Michael J. Corbett’s Oeno grenache highlights why he is widely regarded as a genre-redefining winemaker. This 2024 release shows a little more depth than its predecessor, with a dark-cherry colour in the glass and a touch more aromatic concentration. The nose is wonderfully expressive, combining black cherry, wild raspberry, cranberry and plum with gentle earthiness, a hint of thyme and the sandy lift that defines this site. Vibrant spice adds clarity and energy, and the purity of fruit is striking. While still undeniably delicate, lifted and detailed, as is the hallmark of Corbett's winemaker, the palate is ever so slightly fuller and more powerful in 2024, with slightly firmer tannins and a darker fruit profile amping up its sense of presence, yet it remains impeccably balanced and measured. This is a serious, graceful, light boned and finely structured grenache with the transparency Corbett is known for and the structure to age beautifully. Serve cellar cool in a Burgundy glass if you have one.
