Classic old-vine zinfandel with a vibrant bouquet of cherry compote and spiced plum, berries and vanilla on the palate cushioned by soft, plush tannins. The zinfandel vines that provide the fruit for Gnarly Head are old, many planted originally by Italian immigrants to California at the start of the 20th century. Many are still managed by the same families, and supply Gnarly Head on the basis of long-term contracts that were agreed with a handshake.

Outstanding-value red blend from one of the key figures in South African wine, Adi Badenhorst. Predominantly cabernet sauvignon with 10% pinotage for perfume and spice this is rich and juicy with red-fruit character with notes of bramble and nutmeg. Deliciously easy drinking.

Made for us by Maison Bougrier in the young, fresh 'brasserie' style we have been enjoying for a few vintages now, this Loire Valley cabernet franc has aromas and flavours of red and black fruits and a clean, juicy finish. The 2024 release is generous and easy-drinking, with ripe red-berry and plum fruit, a soft mouthfeel and a gentle spice from native grape varieties like aragonês, trincadeira and touriga nacional. Made by the experienced team at Esporão, this wine reflects both regional warmth and a lightness of touch in the cellar, offering a plush, fruit-led profile with enough freshness to keep it lifted. It's also a wine with a conscience: Esporão farms sustainably, without the use of chemical pesticides or herbicides, and has built much of its winery infrastructure using biodegradable materials. A versatile choice for everyday drinking, this is a crowd-pleasing Portuguese red with real pedigree behind it, made by one of the country’s most respected producers. Great value, especially given the care that goes into it.

This benchmark example of Australian cabernet sauvignon is made exclusively for The Wine Society by Yalumba, and the 2024 is particularly silky, with a plush and mellow nose of ripe blackcurrant, plum and soft cedar spice. The palate is smooth and generous, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and dark-fruit richness. Delicious on its own or with grilled meats and hearty vegetarian dishes. One of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries, Yalumba has a long history of crafting characterful South Australian wines at every price point.
