Zaxee 2560 Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

0 star rating 0 Reviews
Coming from the mountainous Yunnan province just north of Shangri-La, this 100% cabernet sauvignon comes from the highly rated and artisan Zaxee winery and is planted at an incredible 2,560 metres. Winemaker Quan Shi Ping headed straight to the Himalayas after his agricultural and winemsking studies with an aim to bring Chinese fine wine to people's attention. Zaxee is Tibetan for good fortune and Quan is keen on adopting Tibetan traditions and respecting the terroir with his minimal-interventionist approach, creating truly authentic wines. Grapes are grown on schist and basalt soils on slopes overlooking the valley, hand harvested and aged in french oak barrels for 12 months. The altitude gives real concentration and intensity combined with structure and freshness. Full of cassis, liquorice, savoury spice and graphite notes, there are lots of layers to this wine and it keeps opening up in the glass.

Very dark, glowing blackish crimson. Now this is very smart indeed. Worthy of being compared to some of the best of Bordeaux. JancisRobinson.com
