Zinfandel Case

Classic old-vine zinfandel with a vibrant bouquet of cherry compote and spiced plum, berries and vanilla on the palate cushioned by soft, plush tannins. The zinfandel vines that provide the fruit for Gnarly Head are old, many planted originally by Italian immigrants to California at the start of the 20th century. Many are still managed by the same families, and supply Gnarly Head on the basis of long-term contracts that were agreed with a handshake.

A wine that lives up to its name, this brazen zinfandel is a full-bodied, rich and powerful red, with concentrated blackberry and damson fruit profile, mocha, sarsaparilla and sweet spice developing. A great red to pair with a steak, barbecue or burgers, although the soft tannins mean it is a comforting glass by itself.

Amador County, in the Sierra Nevada foothills in California, can produce some of California's most powerful zinfandels. This bold, rich, emphatic wine has an abundance of black-cherry, dried-blackberry, date and chocolate notes, with soft tannins, a full-bodied palate and a long finish.

This classic California zinfandel is created for us by Delicato Family Vineyards from some of their oldest vines in Lodi, which explains its concentration and class. The aromas include black cherry, intense mixed spice and lots of juicy berry fruit. On the palate, it`s full-bodied and satisfying, and makes a great partner for Mediterranean-style cooking, grilled meats, dishes where herbs play a prominent role, burgers or even curry: the perfect house red! Fruit from old bush vines is used to make this wine, yielding less but with grapes of higher concentration. These gnarled and knotted old vines are more abundant in California than almost anywhere else in the world and deserve their place on the label of our zin.

A gloriously food-friendly Wine Champion, this is ‘a lighter expression’ of California zin from the Livermore Valley, whose ’menthol, freshness, herbs, freshness and balance’ were all noted with high approval and high scores. Bright, juicy and poised with inviting blueberry fruit, excellent complexity and moreish elegance.
