Summary
The Wine Society aims to have the most ethical and environmentally sustainable wine supply-chain in the world by 2030. We want our members to be safe in the knowledge that we have done all we can to ensure that their wine has had a minimal negative impact on the environment and climate, and a positive impact on people.
This means ensuring the highest social and environmental standards in both our own operations and in the businesses of the suppliers and producers we source from around the world – across wine, food and drink products. This Code is a key element of this, as it sets out The Wine Society’s own responsible sourcing approach (including social and environmental supply chain due diligence) and the requirements we have of our suppliers. It is based on internationally recognised norms, such as the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights (1948) and the International Labour Organization’s Core Conventions. We will use this Code as a basis to assess our suppliers, identify those who don’t yet meet our high standards and then work together to help bring them up to scratch.
