The Tastings Team
Head of Tastings & Events since 2017, Tim is tasked with devising and overseeing a broad programme of events for members. Prior to moving to the UK, Tim created and ran the Sydney Wine Centre, and his favourite food and wine pairing remains Australia’s unique Hunter Valley semillon with oysters.
Catherine joined the Tastings team in 2019 after three years in Member Services, and many members will know her in her role as Events Manager. Away from work she is a keen cook and, in a bid to become more eco-savvy, has started learning basic dressmaking. Her top food and wine match? ‘Fino or manzanilla sherry with tapas. All day, every day.’
Events Manager Emma joined The Society in 2010. Among her many areas of expertise, Emma has a passion for matching wine with food. Her favourites include ‘steak and kidney pie with a large glass of Cotes-du-Rhône, and I always love a piece of brie with a glass of big, fat, new world chardonnay.’
Ewan has been at The Society since January 2004. With nine years as Head of Tastings & Events, followed by 10 years as The Society’s PR Manager, he has now returned to his ‘spiritual home’ as Events Manager. A fluent French and Italian speaker, he loves communing with our growers, imparting knowledge to members and making dreadful puns. Favourite food and wine pairing: poppadoms and Cristal 1997!
Our Tastings' Venues & Logistics co-ordinator, Gil joined in January 2018 after several years with Corney & Barrow. A huge fan of fizz and seafood, his favourite ever food and wine pairing is Ras el hanout spiced chicken breast with Alsace pinot gris, and when not at work, he enjoys the three Rs (running, rugby and reading!).
Maria joined the Tasting and Events team in January 2016 from our Member Services team, and her background before that was in sales and marketing. Our Tastings administrator, she is our go-to contact for members’ queries. It is a little-known fact, but Maria is also the one who keeps the Tastings team in check!
